Not that it really defines RP, but there has been a statement added to the helpfile. I believe that the situation can vary greatly. I also believe that because of the subjective nature of the definition of "required RP" there will always be a gray area. That means that scrutiny can and will take place. There will never be hard and fast definitions given by Immortals because of this gray area.

There is no need for grey areas.

The latest changes to charm person were hard-coded in an effort to 'correct', 'improve' and mainly 'enforce' it's effects...Unfortunately with no effect to what it meant to fix.

The victim cannot:
-Mentally communicate with anyone.
-Take ANY actions on his own.

Not sure why the 'say' & 'emote' commands remained there.
From my POV anything than utter silence until forced to say anything is bad RP.

EDIT: The victim should take his/her hands off the keyboard until released.

Just to clarify: you put me in hell for what reason again?

Was the reason because I didn't 'rp enough'? Or was it that I 'didn't rp enough after I charmed someone'?

And tell me, if you charmed someone in an enemy city, would you sit there and rp with them mid-fight? Or would you try to have them impale themselves on the nearest stick?

I am just curious as to what the hell type of horrible players the current staff was to assume that all players have this huge amount of time and seemingly infinite hps/mana/moves to have these massive hippie-rp fests in the middle of a high combat zone in dangerous territory? I ask because any person with any SENSE of game mechanics would know that you may as well just remove all;drop all yourself and save the trouble of the winning party looting you.

Look, you have an offensive based spell (it's even flagged as one, gee, imagine that) and it's been this way for over a decade. Suddenly now it comes with strings attached out of no where and no other I-win skill/spell does?

That's what everyone is calling you out on. Yes, you all look like raging hypocrites at the moment due to this, irrespective of the haphazard, horrible way you decided to 'get my attention'.

Hell is only there to provide a safe place for characters to talk with Immortals who are visible and not be interfered with by others. It is as much to protect you while being distracted as it is to keep your attention. It was while snooping that we observed a specific pattern in your charming and we wanted to discuss that. I hell people almost every day.

PS Feedback is the preferred method. Penalties are only used in situations where a discussion has failed.

I need to rephrase, forgive me:

What exactly about my 'specific pattern in my charming' was 'bad'?

You are dancing around the issue, my point is this: you had no point nor rule nor anything that dictated even so much as a glance in my direction.

You wrongfully 'had a talk' (IE: threaten me and force me to quit and/or into a situation that you would have the joy of deleting me due to slippery slope policy) with me and are refusing to admit that I've done nothing wrong -- worse yet, you absolutely didn't do this with anyone else. Including when Ealuriel is a major perpetrator of this and has been for a long while.

Now your excuse will be "Oh, but we can't police everyone!!```" Yeah, too bad that's not a valid argument. You either enforce it when you see it the same always or don't. Half-assing it doesn't help anyone and causes more problems then it solves.

Look, if you truly wanted to have a 'talk' with me, you'd have been smarter and see all the roleplay I've done with a lot of charmees.

You failed to though. You didn't do any research, this was a kneejerk reaction helling and you had FULL intentions of punishment, until you got realized that you couldn't do it without a log hitting a website and everyone going irate.

We're not stupid. Just because you pretend to be anonymous and do things 'behind the scenes' doesn't mean the immstaff doesn't send yims to their buddies about whats going on which get recopied a hundred times.

My basic point is this: knock it off. If you want to see charm be used in a different fashion, post an announcement in game and out that says "IF YOU USE CHARM LIKE THIS IT IS CONSIDERED A BUG TILL WE CAN FIX THE CODE" and be on your merry way.

Otherwise, you helled me to talk about "my lack of rp" which is false and you have no evidence of.

Let me ask you something: if I had popped through the gate, with no word, o all backstab'd someone dead, looted them, and left...would you have helled me?

Would you have helled me if I brought 4 folks in and summon killed someone?

All these are I-win tactics, how come I wouldn't have then? or did someone get a bit too cryey to their imm buddy and suddenly I had to 'be shown' who the real boss was in order to make the game more fun for their buddy?

I think we all know the real answer to that.

Helling is appropriate to use in any situation. Taking it so poorly isn't our fault.

Sigh, achery.

It's not the helling, it's the threat of punishment followed by the 'stop killing these people because they're our friends' tone it leaves afterwards.

Sure, you can hell for ANY reason. And that's FINE, but when you start spitting out threats -- for no real reason too -- don't you think that's unfair?

Put yourself in my shoes. You KNOW I am right, you KNEW what you were doing, is it that hard to even pretend for a moment that you made a mistake and need to rethink your policy?

This is the problem with immortals. You are under some policy where you can not, under ANY circumstances go, "um, yeah, we messed up. Sorry, we'll get a better policy, state it more clearly, and try this again."

Instead, it is:

"Yeah, we helled you because we had no evidence of anything, but we did see you charm someone and kill them a few times, and yeah, they whined about it oocly, and sent us logs....but we didn't bother to observe how everyone else was using it. We also didn't bother to post any notices or announcements on proper charm rp usage. Yeah, sure we claim we want a talk with you, but we DID threaten you, and threatening people is a GREAT way to get compliance...oh, you're upset? Well that's YOUR fault! Why should YOU be upset when you get threatened without doing anything against the rules? You're an idiot, only idiots get upset when they get screwed over!"

See? I'd ask for an apology for the 4 imm cornering and threatening despite not ever having actually broken a single rule, but haha, that's not ever happening. Hence why I am done.

P.S. I do recognize it's just a game and you are all volunteers, but you get 'rewarded' (and feel rewarded) when becoming an imm, that its not totally selfless service. So while I won't ever blast you for trying your hardest, I will point out where I do think you've screwed the pooch and are unwilling to make amends/fix it.

That being said, it is just a game and I don't think ANY IMMORTAL is out to screw anyone over specifically nor do I think anything that they do (such as the yiming) is done out of malice, it's just people being people, and immortals are people and if they were real immortals, this would be perfect, but they're not, etc.

We wont apologize because innocent players go to hell all the time. Threats are used when players do not take our discussion seriously. The discussion started to become more fruitful all of us agreed that your reasoning was basically valid. How could we know unless we asked?
