The problem: My character is in the habit of giving newbies free gear to help them level, I've found several places where I would like to acquire the gear off of a NPC and cannot because it is white aura'd, I don't want to kill the NPC(even though I could easily) and I can't request it and then give it to a newbie. How do I sidestep this problem? I'm not a vet player so I don't know where all the awesome equipment is but I do try and help where I can... what should I do, kill them and then ICly say they gave me the equipment for others or...?

If they are lowbies, I'd request getting them starting area gear and a starting area weapon and sending them on their way.

I think the answer is simple

FIND OTHER LOOT.

Yeah, find other loot. Or roll a darkie/greybie.

Unfortunately, Light Side simply does not have the benefit of being able to do anything they can, even with simple NPCs. Even something like killing bunnies to improve fury likelihood is frowned upon by the more stickler folks. And you never really know when a stickler is watching.

The idea here is that light side is gifted with many things to make up for the narrower road they walk. Included are light-only items, the alignment-based bonus (unless darkies also get this?), and the rewarding knowledge that you treated an NPC in a friendly, appropriate manner at the expense of getting its loot.

There's a reason the FAQ does not recommend going lightie right off the bat.

That reason is that lighties aren't allowed to play the game fully.

Edit: :P

Grep, you are full of crap.

While the lighties get a bonus against dark auras, the darkies get the same bonus against light auras. There are light-only items. There are ALSO dark-only items. While request might not work with EVERY NPC, it is a benefit that a selfish or evil character can not expect AT ALL. If you're given something you should be grateful for it. You shouldn't pass it on to a lowbie, and you shouldn't EXPECT a hand out from every white aura NPC you happen upon.

Lighties get to play the game fully. It's NOT SUPPOSED to be the same experience that a darkie has. That would defeat the damn point.

Ms. Evena, my post was intended to be somewhat sarcastic. I have edited it to include an important indicator.

The point stands that there are bags of tricks that lighties are not allowed to have. I've heard of a Staff of [Redacted] and of killing NPCs to force respawns, for example.

I definitely agree though. Request isn't for getting things to give. The help files are pretty clear on that.

I would not be disappointed if I were mistaken about the bag of tricks thing, though. Perhaps I am just not creative enough.

If someone told my lighty barbarian to stop killing bunnies for the purpose of furying before fighting darkies, I'd kill them too.

That'd show em.

It seems a waste to get them gear beyond their level anyways. Buy what is offered for newbies, it won't get stolen and get them frustrated.
