The Eastern Edge of a Volcanic Chamber
The signs that this chamber once was indeed the heart of a volcano are
very clear here, as the polished obsidian floor gives way to a broad
semicircular hole in the ground, some forty feet wide where it touches the
wall. The waves of heat rising from it, accompanied by the dull red glow
and the smell of sulfur, strongly suggest that the volcano isn't as dead as
first impressions might lead one to believe. As though rising from the
red-hot depths, there is a statue of a fire elemental, worked in obsidian
and inlaid in gold, seeming to grow from the hole and spread outwards as it
reaches all the way up through the sulfurous air to the shadowed and
glittering ceiling. Waves of heat rising through the air make the statue
seem almost as though it is moving, the golden inlay dancing along its
length in an imitation of living fire.
