From what I've seen about dispel magic, it is dependent on the magic resistance and/or willpower of the caster of the spell. It's most noticeable with rifts I find. A rift made by a GM with a spell ward up and high resistance is noticeably harder then say a naked necromancer who is "good" at making rifts. I don't think aura has a thing to do with it, but I wouldn't discount the possibility of it being a minor factor.
