Usually around a tick or so, I believe. I recall taking breaks between leveling to enchant with sorcs and getting around a tick of experience a little ways into it, then getting no experience at all afterwards.

I'd say after about 30 minutes to an hour of enchanting, you stop gaining xp from it.

I've actually gained a lvl + just enchanting, gating, and summoning in a day, so the cap is higher than what Turon says. However, after that first tick, using non-aggressive spells..it'll take a while to get the xp to where you see your getting ticks from it.

Say you come back to enchanting the next day after hours of break, will the xp be gained quicker again?

The limit isn't as you describe it. Its actually possible to get several ticks within a RL day using enchant. The most fun method of accomplishing this is not enchanting constantly.
