Been getting a bit bored of my main and such and constantly playing darkies and I'm currently contemplating playing a lightie. Maybe a pally or so since I liked Hellions so much. (Cleave..Was..Awesome.)

So I'm kinda curious, what's a good race for Paladin? I've narrowed it down between Elf or Centaur, -possibly- dorf. Any suggestions? Advantages / disadvantages and opinions are welcome.

Second, what stats take precedence in raising a pally? I know that they're all important and such as are that of a Hellion. Do they need art? Should str be raised before int? Should int be maxed naturally and str modded? Either way, mods are going to be needed I know. Any tips? Thanks in advance guys.

Find out what the symbols do, intend on shorting those attributes the same amount, think of some lightie only mods and how much those will assist, and short yourself in those categories. You pretty much need every single stat you can get when playing a paladin. Plan your stats at the beginning and you're far better off.

hrm completely opposite from my theory. Which is probably for the best. Make a char with the stats you think is best and if it turns out to suck then you've learned what not to do. :drunk:

That's how you get to the conclusion I proposed.

okay but what about races? i'm looking at a mix of mechanics + rp. What's the advantages and disadvantage of say, a centaur pally vs an Elf pally vs a Dorf pally?

My take is that any paladin is going to need a lot of modding to use all their skills but with said modding any race of paladin is going to be able to use all of said skills - there should not be anything unique to the paladin class that will make racial differences more than they already are. So if you're looking for racial differences you probably know them already.

However paladins are so incredibly restrictive as is that I would highly recommend going with the character concept that works for you, not choosing your race and forcing something to fit. You can and to be successful will have to make the stats and bonuses/maluses work for whatever you choose so it's really not the big issue.

If you make a paladin, keep your "Dark side" alt. Nothing gives me that "I need an adult" feeling like hot paladin peni ... penitence.

Hammer elf paladin isn't a terrible choice. NOT Dwarf paladin, please. You'll just be jealous of all the other paladins that are better than you.

If I rolled a paladin it would be either human or centaur. Centaur hammer paladin would just be so much fun, without the squishiness of elves.

My 2 cents, for what it's worth:

Depends on what mods you're confident at getting. Generally though I would consider wis and int to be really important here... you will be annoyed at having to mod them should you die, particlarly int if you go hammer or something. Whether or not you want to max them is really up to you but just remember it's a trade off between more resist stuff and more mod stuff. If you are in a tribunal or something I think you can be a little more lax with the int.

Since paladins are really trying to pinch every point penny, I wouldn't bother maxing any physical stat with points (str/dex/con) but instead bringing them to a close moddable point. Also, unlike with hellions, I think cha is pretty useless for a paladin (or am I wrong?)

I don't consider art to be super important for a paladin, as you have less viable offensive spells than hellions. Hittable oldbies covered in enchants are still going to resist you, so it's really only good for that in-between or unprepared people (which you don't need it for anyway) or if you REALLY expect to fight a lot of targetable characters... which these days seems less realistic. Still though it's not a terrible idea if you find yourself with points left over. Between art and ME I'd say art, just because it's more likely to save your life and make a difference (I can't imagine how many points you can squeeze into ME), but maybe if you can get a good number of ME trains... I'm not so good on the exact numbers.

I think HP is relatively worthless as you will not get enough hp trains to make a difference in your ability to tank, which is already not super impressive and will probably be overshadowed by any warrior in your group.

I like humans because they don't have any glaring weaknesses. Elves and centaurs are both perfectly viable though. Are you more afraid of being hit by FoD/negative stuff, or fire? I'd say centaur over elf, I'm not sure what case the elf has over centaur power/endurance, but either one really is fine.

Also as Neconct said it's really important to know your faith's symbol's mods, as sometimes they can even mod 2 basic stats. Every bit counts heh.
