I would like to make a suggestion- I do not know if it is possible, but if it is I think it would go great with some RP- is there a way to capture someone and hold them hostage without killing them? I know people can be put in jail- but only by NPCs. I know a person could potentially be charmed- but I think if there was a way to stun someone, then theoretically tie them up and keep them in a room where you could interrogate them or keep them for a predetermined amount of time I think it would make for interesting RP.

Any thoughts?

I was thinking the same thing earlier today. It would be cool if there were a way to capture someone without charming them. I guess snare can be used to a certain extent, but beyond that, you pretty much need a willing victim.

Sadly the only real way to do this is -almost- via charm or dominate: At least, if you aren't planning on just hitting them once every hour on the hour on mode stun.

I did say almost though: I can think of three specific places in the game where you can hold someone indefinitely unless they have someone to break them out. In order to utilize these places though, you're almost guaranteed to have to charm someone. Either or be excessively charming (or have your intended target be excessively stupid).

There's an easy way to do this: get your target to agree OOCly. They can emote being tied up, etc.

However, if you're planning on putting someone through hell and generally making their time here not fun, then you might get a glimpse as to why there is no 'hell' command for mortals. ;)

Once upon a time, there was much discussion about the addition of a binding command, for use on someone that was stunned.

I think that was in Lei Kung/Cannibal's awesome thread about dual membership.

I still drool when I think about that thread.

Since being charmed is already known to be a veritable font of roleplaying, sure, why not give it to everyone?

Well, I do not want to charm someone, I want them to be "captured" but also not indefinitly. And getting someone to agree OOCly would be the ideal way, but sometimes people take themselves too seriously and wont agree since it isnt a "real" option in the game. It was just an idea I had that I thought might cut back on the senseless slaughter. It seems people just go back and forth in PK and I thought if a capture option were available it might change things a bit.

This is one thing I'd be all for. Seeing some of a certain hellion who won't be named logs and how that certain hellion has tried "hostage" RP, it's a bit sad on some of the responses I've seen on some of those logs. It boils down to this.

If said person goes along with it comments are generally "Should have just BoG'd her face off! Pwnpwn own" etc.

Else when those people get into said situation it's usually "pwnpwnpwn." and just kill said darkie.

I'm more of an RP'er than a pker honestly, but the mud seems stale lately. It's all PK with redundant Rp and very little indepth from my perspective...That's just my 2 cp.

I see potential for this to be abused, greatly.

The question is just what ruleset you want to play by.

For example: If you play by the "Rp ruleset" and want to stun someone, you can stun them, emote tying them up and gagging them, and then expect them to play along. But nothing forces them to play along. So what happens when that person you supposedly spend so much time tying up just walks off? Well for one, the game's immersion is destroyed: Either that or you look like the worst knot-tier in the world.

On the other hand, if you play by the rules of the code set up and want to hold someone hostage, the only way you can do that is by certain specific areas in the game and charm person. If something was placed in the code that allowed for some sort of "tying a person up" command, then I'd incorporate that into my RP. If you don't try to extend your RP past the game mechanics then things seem -more- real because you aren't just making crap up on the fly: One of the main reasons why I dislike pregnancy RP, tying people up RP, etc. If you emote rocking your newborn baby (which the code has no idea about) to sleep in your arms, I want my necromancer to be able to FoD you and eat the babies head while you sit and watch: But wait, someone else emoted summoning the baby away from a different room before I used my emote! Foiled again!

I've come to terms with the fact that in SK every single PC is a ninja that possesses the ability to houdini out of any form of restraint another can put on them, save charm and domination. While there are plenty of circumstances where playing "outside the rules" helps things, I find it much more immersing to treat aspects of the code (Like the fact that you can't just beat someone up, tie them up and drag them through a rift to your kingdom) as my basis for what my character can and cannot do within the game.

That said, I do not think that having an ability to tie people up is a good idea at all. It would be too easily abused, and there are plenty of conversations that can be had without a knife to the other guys throat.
