It makes sense that you might get intimidated out of brandishing a stave. It doesn't make sense that the stave would affect one group and not another, unless you were going to change the mechanic so that you could target a specific group with a brandish.

Since you can use holy word to get around intimidate, however, I was surprised that you can't use brandish to do the same thing. It seems inconsistent to me.

One is a magic item you are using, the other is your God.

From the way staves are -supposed- to work, the staff intimidate doesn't make sense.

From the way staves are -coded- to work, the staff intimidate makes sense.

Then again, which would you prefer: Brandishing a sleep staff and having to pass everyone's sanc spell just to brandish, or having to beat everyone's sanc just for that individual person?

I'd also like to state that yes, even magical items are scared of me, just like the plague in Owyran is scared of me.

No, this response doesn't make any sense. You can get intimidated trying to BoG a hellion, even though that's praying to your God as well.

Turon, you are so freaking terrifying. You're so terrifying I was almost too petrified to respond to your post.

Yeah, this intimidate does make sense actually: When you brandish an offensive staff it's like you're waving it psychotically at every portion of the room that is not in your group's formation. It's only that when you encounter someone with sanctuary you are temporarily paralyzed before continuing your wild flailings, and when there's a scary hellion nearby, your crazed, relentless spasms turn into brief moments of pants-pooping terror before you resume your unstoppable rampage of nasty gesturing.

I know I'm supposed to be maintaining the stoic party line and that the code is always right... but this post made me crack up ...just for a moment, after which I resumed the aforementioned consistently bug-free view on all facets of the game. ;)

In my personal opinion, holy word is the divine wrath of your god passing through you. Bolt of Glory, on the other hand, is calling forth the power that your god has invested in you. Given the amount of ME that each uses, I think the respective consideration given to intimidate by each is appropriate.

Does anyone still have that log of Slayne running into Sith'a'niels inn with a spear, murdering Omnn in front of two or three other enemies and then getting stunned and intimidating the paladin trying to kill him with BoG?

Man that was awesome. I think the log was titled "More proof that I am Chuck Norris" on mrp's site.
