Every magical protection enchantment on a piece of equipment lowers the damage of a blow that strikes the body part said equipment covers. For example, if you have a helmet with great magical protection on it, every physical blow that hits your head will hurt less. As such, magical protection on armor is more desireable than magical protection on jewelry.

Turon: That's such a basic thing I didn't know. I obviously need to comb through all the old posts on this board and the gameplay board. I guess I thought it protected you from bad magic only.

Magical Protection does protect against spell damage, but slightly differently:
1) When taking physical damage (direct or ranged), only the protection of the affected body part counts (i.e., head, on body, arms, legs, hands, feet). These are the "armor" slots.
2) When taking spell damage, the sum total of your protection counts, including both "armor" and "jewelry" (finger, neck, wrist, about body) slots.

So while MP is desirable on armor, don't throw away jewelry that has protection, because it will provide you benefit as a caster, albeit less so than on your armor.

Does that apply to ALL physical damage, or just magical physical damage? For example, if MP protects against a burning spear, would it protect the same against a tanso steel battlespear?

All physical damage, you massive confusing nub. Has Hagrel been walking around without MP on his armor? Did I let you lead my character's group during pvp?

I've never played a darkie priest, so I doubt I can be of much help in this thread, but I maxed Int, wis, art, and mana, and had enough left over to get both strength and con to powerful and durable without mods. I also benefitted from having a certain lightie only weapon at my disposal, as well as other useful lighty items. With these, I was able to tank in PvE decently, though perhaps not as well as Elriorith, for example, and I held my own better than some other 'front-row' classes. I'm not sure how any of this would translate to dark-aura priests, however.

tl;dr: Priest tank is semi-viable, but only as a lighty.
