With this outlook on help files, you screw over newbies who don't take the time to memorize every single freakin help file.

I had no intention of learning about Yenko ever except for the fact that she is "the Maiden". I didn't know to look there and didn't have any reason to. Even if I used the help list on SK.org, I wouldn't have saw Yenko on the list and said, "Ah, that must be the Maiden."

Baldric, I am going to sacrifice your first born child for your transgressions. This thread is full of failure and refusal to accept a simple confusing fact: THE HELPFILES ARE OOC.

Okay. Let me dumb this down, WD style.

If you are a noob, referring you to the helpfiles is an OOC action by a veteran character. If you choose to make a character who never heard any of the information contained in helpfile X, that's all well and good - but "searching your memory" wouldn't help you there, would it?

IT IS OOC.

IT IS OOC.

IT IS OOC.

Then using help files ICly is against the rules! All of you are banned for life, now go eat a pie.

No one says you have to learn it. When the topic arises you type in help <whatever> and lo and behold your -character- knows it.

Nope, it's OOC. Means the player knows it, not the character.

The HELPFILE is OOC. That is why there is NO REASON to reference the HELPFILE in and IC manner. The KNOWLEDGE is IC to your CHARACTER.

*sigh*

Help files are seen as "common knowledge." If you want to RP someone who lived under a rock because you're A) lazy or B) new to the game, that's fine; Conversely, it's terribly misguided to get out the pitchforks because every character doesn't go asking who Dulrik is or what this "Nerina" is that everyone keeps talking about.

I use pemotes that refer to the helpfiles ICly all the time.

Do you personally know something about every religion and race on the planet. There isn't anything everybody knows. Some characters will know lots of the help files and some won't. The player has to figure out which, don't you think?

Some things just don't make sense to me, and I've been in these types of arguments before. The only way to solve this argument is for me to say "Ok, fine. I'll try and think of it the same way you do. I won't like it, but there's nothing I can do about it."

So, with that said...

Ok fine. I'll try and think of it the same way you do. I won't like it, but there's nothing I can do about it.

I already accounted for this, as did Turon. Now STFU.
