What determines if they get damaged? My friend who introduced me to this game says it's the strength of whatever is hitting them, but for some reason I don't believe that's it.

p.s. Sorry for all the questions! I'm new and naturally inquisitive in real life, so it carries over.

p.s.s. sorry if my character bothers the mess out of you asking the same stuff.

It depends on what is hitting them. If copper armor is hit by a steel weapon, there is a high chance the armor will be damaged. On the flip side an iron weapon against energy armor will probably break the weapon.

There maybe a chance modifier based on the strength of the attacker, but I doubt it. If you ask IC, most people will be able to tell you what is more or less durable than other things.

PS. Don't wear Ink armor.

So an apprentice in iron armor can have his armor damaged by a amateur with a steel weapon?

Why would level have any effect on it?

No, level doesn't matter. A grandmaster (highest level here) wearing 'tanso steel' armor and fighting somebody half his level who has an energy/adamantite/etc weapon will still get his armor busted.

Despite the snide remark by LPP, the answer is yes.

If there are any modifiers to equipment damage based on level or strength, they are both very slight. It seems it is almost entirely based on material. If you attack with an adamintite weapon, and you can connect with a GM wearing paper armor (is there any of that in the game?), you are still going to damage it.

Their brittleness and hardness stats determine their degradation. Personally, I think there should be a toughness stat.

I'm not being snide, I just can't figure out how it would be relevant.
