i like this idea, especially for the secretive sects that exist it would be utterly useful! I was forced out in the open with two things via no good way for people to find what they do not know they are looking!!!!

Dulrik has made it clear he wants to avoid global channels, so I don't see "tell Talon" coming anytime soon. Right now, titles are the best tool we have for that sort of information broadcast.

The tell members of a tribunal get when a new character starts in their hometown...that's a global channel?

If it is...then...okay. If it isn't, then neither is what OP is suggesting.

How is that more than the current mentor feature then? I'm probably not understanding something here. By global channel, I mean a way for one person to trigger message(s) to be sent to more than one person in spite of their location.

It's exactly like the mentor feature, but only works for non-faction characters and only in front of the Judge of a city, and of course has a different message.

Oh, and works regardless of status/level.

No change to game code needs to be made... just a NPC in the judge's room or something that, when hears "I am looking for a [insert tribunal name here]." it sends a quick message across the tribunal chat channel, much like guardians do for cabal HQ's (and there is a reason that the cabals don't need anything like this right there, they already have a guardian that alerts them).

Even if it mimic'd the mentor command, there is still the option that A: the 'mentor' has mentor turned off and/or the 'mentor' will just plain ignore the tell.

Yes. I mentioned that you could walk up to the gate of a cabal to get attention. But can't you think of a few reasons you might not want to do that?

Yes. h1p1 is suggesting an alert identical to "mentor."

Well, of course. In the worst case scenario, a trigger-happy cabal member will respond by killing first and (hopefully) asking questions later. Best case scenario, like the mentor command, the member finds you (or finds out who you are from the adjective + race) and you get what you want. Otherwise it's really the same as the mentor command, you are ignored or nobody is listening.

Sure, if the command is very simple to place in without breaking anything else (like the mentor command, wouldn't want that broken!), sure, no harm done and another feature on the list of features for the game! However, as there really are non-code options available, and it really doesn't seem to be too much a problem really, I strongly doubt this kind of feature would get much attention.

Even with the potential negative of something similar to what cabals have with their guardians as I suggested, I like to think the positives of such a simple system (especially if noted in tribunal forums what it's intended use and grounds for abuse is) would greatly out-weigh the negatives.

OR future enemy sees lowbie enter or leave cabal HQ and attacks him assuming his membership.

Fair enough addition to the worst case scenario. I still maintain my same points though.
