the worst is folks adjs/names when you are trying to go and adventure and have to draw NPCs. c 'flame' se and it hits "sexy Peso" in your group, and then he kills you all, is bad:(

I used a particularly damaging seekrat skill on Seago once.

If the exit wasn't listed as 'se' then I would accept laziness in my typing as being the cause.

Obvious exits: n(closed) e s(closed) se(closed)

It is, though.

It's appreciated that at some point in the past shop listings became numbered as I can't recall how many times I purchased the wrong item and wasted valuable gold in the process.

To build on this, is there any merit in being able to determine which 'se' applies to which? Could exits be given priority since they are the least innocuous? (you can't cast a direction without a target as well)

I guess anything that can aid disambiguation would be welcomed.

There is a quick solution that will work for now.

Make a client-side alias that works like the following:

alias "open se" send "open southeast"

8)

MUSHClient and the other variants I've tried can handle space-containing aliases, so it should be okay.

I wonder, is there a way to input 'north' when i type 'n' into my client? It would also need to work with 'shoot n', 'open n', unlock.. etc.

That would sure save me a lot of trouble.

There are word-expansion software packages for this. They're used for medical transcription and other typing jobs to incorporate shorthand into their every day workloads.

I doubt there are ways to get them to communicate with a client, so I don't know why I'm bothering to write this response. I suppose it's wholly irrelevant.

local client-side aliases can be one character long and contain spaces, that takes care of all your needs

In MUSHClient:

Make two aliases for each direction: For southeast it would look as follows:

Alias (* se) to (%1 southeast).
Alias (* se *) to (%1 southeast %2).

Now, if I enter "l se" the client parses "l southeast".
If I enter "shoot se dragon" the client parses "shoot southeast dragon"
If I enter "c 'magic missile' se ugly griffon" the client parses "c 'magic missile' southeast ugly griffon).

Ta da!

Oh, do you do only need to make aliases for the diagonal directions: The only thing in SK that parses from single letters are directions.

...I feel extremely stupid for not figuring this out until now.
