Oh, I wouldn't let that stop you, unless Mira has told you it's a problem. Last time I went through this, it took a few weeks just to collect ideas. Once assignments started being handed out, we had at least a week to do each one. It's a measured pace, not a sprint.

I love that idea Grep. I wish there was more translucency in SK's areas. For instance I wish there were guides to the game much like there are for other games.

It seems to me unless you know someone who knows someone acquiring info on secrets in the game is damn near impossible.
Or if, you know, you just ICly ask people. My current character, for example, is a walking deluge of information and he's all but posting it on the astral boards. Having too long of a conversation with him about the areas in the game will almost ruin SK for you, and I haven't used OOC information on him.

I don't know, Edoras. Even on Turon, your characters seemed to know tricks that people of their class had no business learning, and Antiira has used the same tactics before as well. I find it hard to believe you went through the trial and error each time.

Posting that information on boards is exactly what you should be doing. Instead, you're hoarding knowledge and demanding people RP with you. It's like being a Diva Priest. Tsk tsk.

@Forsooth: having to grade essays basically means I'm in no mood to collaborate with others, free time notwithstanding, especially when there's writing involved. There would be red markers involved.

Turon -was- friends with Ealuriel, and if you truly think about the abilities given to each class abstractly, it isn't that far out to imagine some of the "tricks of the trade" that classes can use. One trick in particular that I told you to use on Kimbry was one that I had figured out completely on my own while playing Turon without ever playing a sorc at that level before.

The reason I don't post such information on boards, just like the same reason I don't post information about all the neat IC areas in the game on the astral boards, is because for a lot of people the fun is -in- the exploring, and there's a certain enjoyment that a lot of people get out of finding something out for themselves, or at least from within an RP situation, rather than having it spoon-fed to them walkthrough style. For a lot of people, I'd like to imagine that this extends into exploring their classes' utility just as much, and putting every single bit of knowledge I have about the games' mechanics available in some OOC forum, or even an IC forum without IC interaction such as the astral boards, takes away from the experience.

In other words, I prefer to say "You know, there's an easier way to do that," and let the player figure out the "easier way" themselves.

From your interpretation of the experience, you mean. You're forcing your way of playing on others with a statement like that. No one forces people to read a walkthrough even if it is there. If your enjoyment depends on how OTHER people play the game, then you have some things to work out and all the justification in the world won't change the fact.

I'm glad there are moments like this where people have the opportunity to make the game, at least with its content, more like the kind of game they'd like to play, but I'm also glad that their products wind up being optional among the array of choices. It's a shame that some people rob others of choices because of an air of superiority.

How am I forcing my way of playing on others by not putting up a full-content blog of all the areas within SK I know through what is essentially an OOC medium? This isn't WoW, there's no WoWhead, and no bosskillers.com, and that's a good thing because there also aren't content patches every six months.

Putting an astral boards note for every high-level area or quest in the game, whether your character learned them legitimately or not, would be like screaming out the ending to all the movies playing at a theater to the patrons waiting in line. It kills all the suspense and fun of first-time exploration, and nothing can take that back. If someone wants to ruin that part of the game for themselves, there is readily available recourse for that, and I will not be joining them.

I would be more willing to continue the explanation somewhere where we won't be derailing a very important and useful thread by doing so. Basically, it comes down to the fact that you aren't sharing, and the choices you make behind that are what posture the move.

It would be like if Mira never solicited people for help because she just figured people wouldn't enjoy building areas. I for one am thrilled players are gifted with more ways to play and participate in the game in ways like this.

You reinforced my point a few posts back Edoras. What happens when you're gone from the game then? Where does all that knowledge go? It goes poof.

So? I figured it out, someone else that cares will figure it out too. I'm not eating the IC paper with the secret info on it or anything.

With some areas in this game, yes, you are.

That being said, I'm checking out of this thread at this point. There's not much more to add to the topic.
