I only learned of this command yesterday. Maybe the player that told me about it read my post about nearly losing group members after typing 'info' too much instead of casting 'heal' and didn't want to be subject to the same fate!!

Anyway, the help text on the command and all the information I could gleen from doing a forum search is focused around combat with the miss/deflect/block options.

However, I can find no mention of the 'move' or 'item' options. What are these for?

I'm pretty sure that nospam move edits out people walking in/out of the room: Useful maybe if you're exploring with a large party and don't want all the move spam... but very very dangerous.

I think nospam item removes item spam for other people getting/taking items, such as getting items from containers and such, though it may also be related to items on the ground.

The reason they're not within the help files is that they were added in far past the nospam command itself. It's also worth noting that nospam move and item especially can make you miss a lot of very important information, and if you activate them by using nospam all you can get in trouble pretty quickly.

Thanks Edoras, very helpful indeed.

Am I right in thinking this is your recommended setting for a primary healer such as myself:

Code:
>nospam
Syntax: nospam <type> <target>
        nospam [all|none]

[type]    SELF     VICTIM   OTHER
miss      ON       ON       ON
deflect   ON       ON       ON
block     ON       ON       ON

move      off
item      off

Also, that set-up took a total of nine separate commands. Is that right? It didn't accept 'all' for either <type> or <target>.

It's just "nospam all" or "nospam none". The easiest way to set those nine is to actually set nospam all, then toggle nospam item and nospam move, though it doesn't matter either way. I'll say that MOST combat spam is going to be avoided by the "other" column, whereas the Victim and Self columns are only going to stop information about people hitting you, or you hitting other people.

For a healer that doesn't like reading combat spam, that's a good setup to have: I personally never turn nospam on, but that's mainly because I like seeing how effective people are at dodging/blocking/etc. One -really- important thing you need to be aware of with those settings, however, is that it's very possible to have people in front of you get into combat and you not realize it due to the first hit being blocked by nospam.

For example, if you're leading a group (Even one with just your own pet and yourself) and you walk into a room with a NPC that attacks your pet but misses, you won't see it. If you keep moving at that point instead of staying and killing the NPC, you'll end up in the front row because you'll have left your pet behind. That's the other main reason I don't like using nospam: I can easily miss my group being involved in combat and throw the formation completely out of whack.

That said, for a healer it's nice to have those settings, if only to keep the spam down. It's just not my personal preference.

Personally I used the #COLOR command in zMUD to 'dim' lines that were misses, etc. Post a request in the Clients forum if you need more info on how this works.

Thankfully the only casualty today was someone's pet, but I sincerely don't know how the fighters were coping with the screen flooding they must have been suffering as result of not using the nospam command.

This was also only with five players. I hate to think what it would be like with nine...

Well, yeah, there's only so much you can stop: Successful hits will always appear, and rightfully so. At least in your case most of those hits were coming from your side.

Honestly, I kind of enjoy the aspect of the game that in large battles, you can't always tell everything what's going on.

I know what you mean Edoras and I agree with you. Certainly not one single player in my group ever complained if I was seemingly slow to heal them.

I've played graphical MMORPGs and even with visible health bars for every team player, get into a raid instance with 64 in your team and suddenly you have a very, very difficult job as a healer ... and rightly so.

I guess for me one thing that didn't make sense and was very frustrating was the fact that I'd type 'info' to see who needed healing and would not be able to read it before another round of attacks would scroll it off the screen. I know there's another thread about wanting to be able to put team members' healths in your prompt ... and I really shouldn't complain since I have (and used) the 'mass healing' prayer ... but I guess my point was ... even with the 'nospam' active ... good grief there's a lot to take in sometimes! (and many of you don't use the 'nospam' facility so just how much worse is it for you?!)
