I read on here that it said that leveling to Mentor should be quick and easy then it slows down.... How can that be if you gain barely a level and already know the place you are in like the back of your hand. Leveling is seriously [REDACTED] and utterly annoying. Was fighting creatures that I considered at tough challenge and finally got a tick of experience after killing nearly 10 of them. Plus I also notice your discovery goes from newly discovered to familiar before one even gets a single tick of experience.

Is having too much charisma a bad thing? My character had 24 without any mods.

Having high natural charisma helps leveling.

If you know an area like the back of your hand, it means you're receiving an xp penalty in that area. You need to level up in different places.

Ten NPCs for a tick of xp doesn't sound bad. What class are you? If it's taking you a long time to kill 10 NPCs, you're probably not doing it right.

Yeah.. I can't help but say if you're getting a tick of experience from only ten NPCs.. Damn my characters are jealous.

Try to stay on the lower end of areas within your list of places within range. Instead of practicing in an area that's Expert to Grand Master, perhaps a place that's Expert to Mentor. Familiarity will depend greatly on a number of factors.

Priest journeyman (4) and have naturally maxed charisma (24 I think? I'm an elf) and gained barely a level in the Bakemono caves before it went to knowing the area like the back of my hand. This has been happening in all areas I've tried to train in.

I'm surprised you're only getting one tick per 10 NPCs while training at journeyman, especially with maximum elf charisma. Are you leveling with melee damage, or are you taking advantage of flamestrike/spear of faith? Spells give twice as much experience for the same amount of damage, and for casters are pretty much always the way to go for leveling. If your wisdom isn't as high as it could be, I'd ask around for help in getting items to wear to help with that, as higher WIS also means faster mana recovery in addition to a higher mana pool.

Spear of faith is excellent for levelling once you get it, though I think that's a veteran spell for priests. Flamestrike does less damage for the mana it costs, but it does hit groups, so if you can manage to find some grouped NPCs it gives a boatload of experience.

Even though casting spells may seem slower due to the fact that you have to sleep to regain mana, remember that you get twice as much experience for it: So killing 5 NPCs through spells is better for experience than killing 9 NPCs through melee damage. Not to mention you improve at casting damage spells in the process which is always nice. If you want training to be more engaging, you can even work at trying to sleep in between ticks: Kill 2-3 NPCs with spells, then immediately sleep until you regain some mana, then stand up and kill some more. Learning to sleep at ticks while casting spells in between is an excellent skill to learn as a caster, and will make your life in training, brewing and enchanting be -much- more efficient.

In other words, hang in there: Once you get spear of faith especially, leveling skyrockets for priests, and as long as you can find dark-aura'd NPCs to train against (Pretty easy really) you'll be able to train very well even solo all the way up to grandmaster.

There are a some groups of creatures there (3 per group and a few 4 per group) that I've been using flamestrike on. Spear of faith is a Veteran skill and I'm 2 reviews away from being able to learn it, granted I could learn it now but it was takes loads of experience to learn it 2 levels early.

Edit: Also notice that for the past few days that the game has been Highly laggy. Was on the other day and there was only 9(visible) players online and it took what it seemed like ages for any commands to go through.

Fight creatures that are much more powerful than you instead of tough challenge. Also a huge thing is what aura you are. Fighting bats and generally unintelligent animals in a cave is probably good exp for all auras, but there's definitely a huge boost to exp for killing creatures that are on the opposite aura spectrum. So as an elf that means killing things that are evil. If you are in the perfect area for you're level/class/aura after expert you'll be gaining like a tick every 10 NPCs you kill all the way to gm. Finding those areas is the hard part, but as a lighty it should be way easier.

I feel like I read somewhere that having high charisma actually makes it take longer for you to get familiar with an area, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was suppose to be like that but behaved exactly the opposite way. I usually get 4-5 levels per area I go to, leaving with "you need to go out and explore new areas." The whole familiar thing is overblown though, if you're in an area that is good exp for your level, you're going to get good exp regardless how familiar you are. It seems like it's more a bonus for exploring new areas than it is a punishment for staying in the same area.

Maybe I just stink at leveling, as an elf I've been fighting those bakemono, and some bats in a area with orcs. Would the alignment of scrupulous over principled have anything to do with experience gain? Cause I'm scrupulous.

A little, but not much. Typically creatures are grey aura as opposed to dark, but not always.

Once you get spear of faith, though, it'll be easy to determine what's dark aura. Muhaha.
