sayto acolyte Perhaps one of our many priests will pray for your return. Dulrik might forgive you, but today, I do not!

Heck, you could even go with the idea that if they will not give you the item you request to fight evil, then they are in fact serving evil by keeping the item out of your hands, where it will do more good.

The rules of the game are basically if you can make an IC reason, however convoluted and ridiculous it may be, so long as you are roleplaying your character, you're good. Death shouldn't mean the same thing to your characters that it means to us, because it is hardly permanent in and of itself. Painful? Yes. Irreversible? Not so much.

I mean, when they repop in two minutes, isn't that basically what's happening IC?

That's all well and good but if humbling him involves murder it's pretty harsh, even for a scrupulous character (I assume you mean killing a light-aura NPC to get them to repop). I think the imms might feel obligated to curse you if they saw you doing that.

For grey-aura NPCs it's a little easier, but still troublesome for many lighty character concepts.

I think I still have a log in which Ceciro killed a sprite elder because he refused to submit to his "request" code and part with an item :P The roleplay behind it is that he needed to item to advance his Lord's Crusade and by not giving it to him he hinders said crusade, so punishment must ensue... I was mildly disgusted at that.

Fr grey aura NPCs like the sprite elders, you can always pretend to spar with them for it an stun them. The problem with that is that a) they may go report you if they are in a law zone and b) the item won't repop if you're trying to enchant it.
