I see no reason I should not be able to cast petrification on myself. I can imagine both RP and practical situations where it would be in ones interest to do so. As it now stands, however, the game does not let anyone do this.

I would also like to have innate infravision for dragons, and innate sneak for cats.

Being able to petrify yourself would be pointless and useless.

When it's an alternative between that, and getting junk looted? Not so pointless or useless.

Petrifying yourself to avoid getting ganked is...kind of lame, imo. Both OOCly and ICly.

I liked the way petrification is set up because you can master it just by spamming the spell on yourself.

True, although if that were the only reason there are other ways to master the spell safely. I prefer leaving the safeguard in place myself.

If a sorcerer can successfully petrify himself then he deserves to be petrified.

My bet is the OP would fail to petrify himself about 50 times due to forgetting to remove his armor and would have to sleep 10 times.

You are still bitter over you not being able to RP being charmed? Seriously give it a rest.

Yeah, because we all know it's enjoyable to sit there and wait for the other person to petrify you. I know how to rp being charmed, i've done it several times in the past. But when you know the other person is going to kill you anyways, it's a waste. But nice try.
