Taunt is balls. It's a magical effect, so if you fight in a no magic room it can't be used. It also requires concentration now.

Intimidate is also magical effect and requires concentration. :(

A merc or barb who knows what he is doing will murder a swashbuckler. Swashbuckler cannot compete with the other two melee classes. Swashbuckler is also limited to the front row, which is a serious drawback to the class. This might be intentional, since swashbucklers have taunt.

I never considered playing a swashbuckler, though at least most of the bandalores are made of leather now.

Swashbucklers are (as a general rule) inferior to the other two melee classes in a 1v1, but as a tradeoff they have the only skill which can hold enemies in place in the room regardless of rank, and also shoot their INT down ten points or more. It also takes freaking forever to kill a prepped swashbuckler that's on mood defensive, unless you happen to be a barbarian with access to the only bandalore that isn't leather or iron in the game. Swashbucklers are one of the the answers to the "problem" of having caster classes that can get into battles without risking anything.

I remember the days when Antiira and Veret would literally mow through enemies left and right in enemy territory without sustaining any damage whatsoever.
