Knowing Syn's playstyle, she definitely doesn't like to use voodoo, so will probably try to curbstomp people in person.

So... mass effect maledictions. Why would you ever cast any other malediction spell with this then? Effect an entire group for cheap. That would be pretty awesome, but it would make every other malediction useless to ever use. Except maybe sleep by itself.

Just give them fear. That would be a good trade off I think.

So is voodoo apparently? At least they would be forced to enter into a fight with people, and likely multiple people if they are going to use fear.

Fear is the exact opposite of what shamans need: they need something to actually keep people in the fight long enough to die, e.g. spirit chains.

Spirit taunt? Should be pretty elite because you can summon more than one dead swashi spirit at a time to do the taunting.

I don't think so, no. I wouldn't object to a fear stave being introduced into the game, though, which would allow one or two shamans to have access to the spell in the way that sorcs/warlocks/bards/rogues/priests do.
