The amount of work you'd have to go through to <redacted> and then wait for said person to log in and instantly send them a tell would make this nigh impossible to fake.

Telling people they have messages waiting seems like a good idea. I've also wanted to have the board automatically prune itself of older messages.

How about if a certain note hasn't been looked at for a set amount of time, remove it? Some notes are relevant for many years, so removing those could actually be a hindrance.

Let's say 365 days is the limit. So note 1 was posted 365 days ago, but was read yesterday, so it doesn't get deleted until 365 days from yesterday. Note 2 was posted 365 days ago, but was never looked at, so it gets deleted.

Or just delete them after 6 RL months no matter what.

I read old notes all the time. Heck, there are notes on the Talon note board still from when I had my second character on SK.


Nobody really writes notes anyways. You'll go like 30 IC years without people writing a note on ANY board sometimes.

I guess my post is targeted more at religious boards than anything.

I've seen a system like this work in another mud. Upon login you simply get a string that says "You have 0 letters" or "You have 1 letter"
