This time, it's a poll.

Options are
1) Make it so charm person cannot be successfully cast on other PCs.
2) Change the save for charm person so that it is really hard to land.
3) Leave it the way it is.

I have finally been convinced by the other reasonable members of the SK community that CP simply shouldn't be allowable against other PCs. I voted for option 1. There is already a thread devoted to the topic, so I think it would make the most sense if nobody actually posted in this thread, but kept their arguments for the other one. This thread can just serve the function of a poll.

Also, I'd like to point out that this poll is set up so you can change your vote. I didn't realize it was possible to set things up that way. This is good because four people already accidentally clicked on the third option. They can fix their vote, simply by clicking on whichever option they meant to vote for. I assume it was an accident because I haven't heard anyone express any argument for leaving charm as it is.

Typical to assume that just because someone isn't arguing for it in the forums, that means they made a mistake. If your position is already the status quo, a lot of people just don't feel like they need to waste time discussing it. The onus is on the people who want it changed to make their case.

I think, at least this has been my assumption for a good while, that the save for charm person is simply broken, as in afflicted by some bug. Word on the street has it that it might have something to do with the charisma of the caster being taken into consideration for the saving throw, but as I said that's mostly rumors. However, I've got first hand experience with a gm sorc casting charm person on a character with 1000 willpower enchants, and the spell still hit like one in four or one in five. If that's not a bug, then I don't know what it is.

:edit: What I'm saying is that I'd like to see how charm person works out if it's saving throw is "fixed". I can't imagine charm person being as bad as it is now, if 25 - 35 willpower plus a reasonably high wisdom score would make you more or less immune to it, much like 25 - 35 fort + high con pretty much does for Fod and pet.

The case has been made repeatedly by every single player who participates in pvp, with the exception of Edoras, who for some reason doesn't think CP is OP when applied against PCs. Literally, every single person who pvps thinks this should change, except Edoras. Not a single person has offered a counter-argument based on game-balance that reaches the conclusion that charm person should stay as it is.

The fact that there are 9 people who disagree with me on this means that there is some combination of 9 people who are either stupid or who are playing sorcerers.

I wish I kept logs of every time I tested this spell with one of my sorcs. The save is completely broken, especially when one considers the fact that it's an i-win spell that is completely devastating when it lands. It is also the best griefing spell in the game. Nothing lets you humiliate/abuse someone to the extent that charm person does.

The test that jvj refers to I believe used an elf sorc and a 1000 willpower item. Most races will not have 1/5 success against 1000 willpower, but it's still an absurdly high success rate. Of course, any sorc can polymorph into an elf.

I don't even play anymore and when I did, I still agreed the spell should be limited only to NPC's.

Charm Person should obviously not work on PCs, since when a PC attacks you, and you cast charm person on them and fail, you get it completely disabled.

Dulrik, please fix this.

BTW, part of the update to the new server was a tweak to saves on Charm Person. There is no longer a charisma bonus involved.

I don't see any harm in making it a NPC only spell.
