My char was practicing haggle, buying cheap crap and getting rid of it, and I noticed that after a little bit I was carrying more weight than I previously had been. The first time I went in and wasn't really paying attention to it, so I carefully checked my starting weight and proceeded again. I started with 162.9 lbs, bought and discarded 102 oranges. When finished I drop every coin I have since I know that excessive silver and copper coins can really pack on the pounds. I didn't have much but I did it just to be sure. Somehow at the end I carried 164.8 lbs. All in all, I probably gain over ten pounds of phantom weight doing this.

EDIT: SO then I quit and logged back on... I logged off with 165.4 lbs of stuff, and logged back on with 138.2 lbs...

There's a bug with training skills/spells and, it seems, with buying and selling. The game doesn't subtract the weight of the coins used to train (and it looks like from this description, to buy), and so you end up with a fair bit of phantom weight if you're doing this a lot. Relogging always fixes it, but that's not always convenient.

It's definitely not convenient if you're a novice with store-bought journeyman gear, to quit and relog just to fix the phantom weight issue.

As a workaround, drop your stuff, log out, log back in, pick it up.

Interesting. Definitely a bug (and a long-standing one at that) but at least it's nice to know that it doesn't have a huge impact on the game.

This explains a lot about my poor character who is always right at the half-weight mark, and I am glad that this was brought up.

No, that character just eats too much.

If there were a "diet" action or quest chain that I could take to make my corpse less heavy, I would perform it on every single one of my characters.

Thanks for the description. That should be easy to verify and thus, fix.

I have to say one of the weight issue things I mentioned many moons ago got fixed rather quickly. Once upon a time, amateurs in some places would get weighed down with copper coins. Depositing them in the bank to reduce the weight meant that they weren't available until novice because no bank withdrawals were allowed. Big D fixed that issue after I brought it up.

Things don't run smoothly if the top only always gets complaints. Sometimes an attaboy is needed.
