From a post in another thread:
Quote:
Allow a timer on a persons possessions that will not allow others to junk them immediate after they die.

I think this is actually an interesting solution and am considering implementing it. Your chance to weigh in is now.

I don't think it will actually change the nature of jlooting.

If there's a timer, then they'll just grab the corpse, run off, wait for the timer to expire, and junk it then. If that's what they want to do, they will do it, timer or not.

This change would make me want to play a paladin who wore an entire set of lightie-only gear.

It has been said before but, to junk ones things shouldn't be as quick as junk all. It would take someone quite a while to destroy a full set of armor.

Or at least painful. Fully enchanted gear, all that energy in it, just destroyed without any preamble. There should be a backlash of damage to the person, or even room, where it is done. But, with room, people would use it as a griefing tool, so just to the person would be fine.

The only reason we have junk at all is mostly due to historical reasons. Early mud servers encouraged you to clean up after yourself to keep the memory footprint of the server low. This is still a desirable thing today, although not as necessary as it was in those days. But to continue to encourage clean-up, you can't make junking an annoying task, such as requiring it to take time or energy to do so.

This proposal to only put a timer on it after a character death looks like it would avoid making clean-up tasks annoying. Sure, the opponent can carry off all the opponents gear - assuming they can lift it all. Even if they can, carrying all that weight makes them easier an easier target. I am inclined to think that there would be a lot less unthinking full junk loots if this were to be implemented.

I believe this is a dumb idea. The only times I consider junking someone is when they decide to wear a suit of religious gear, which cannot be sold at any shop. I hate this [REDACTED]. However, these things already have a junk timer on them. That is stupid as well. Typically when I PK someone I sell their stuff. Liquidating it for coin to buy vials/pills makes a lot more sense than just dropping it in the middle of the room, and junking it.

Personally I think that the only thing that needs done is that the timer for deleting after PK needs extended to like half an hour to an hour, so that people that get all emotional, and upset, can continually be called sissies as they try to delete.

I am fairly certain that victims of full junk loots are victims of premeditated junk looting.

Premeditated or not, either way you'd have to either carry off the gear to deal with it later or else stand and defend the area for a few ticks. Both situations give the dead guy and his friends at least a small chance to recover the gear before it vanishes into the junk ether.

I, for one, think the idea is good overall.
