I do. But I've also played a paladin and a hellion and have experience with defensive casting. It's not omg horrible.

Dang, I would try to rally D to let that casting skill ignore the defensive lag.

Don't see a problem with that given that if they die while you're mounted on them, you get that double penalty of being prone and set to resting which raises the damage dealt to you.
