Held sleep canceled when group member dies

If you cast sleep on someone, and then someone in their group dies, they immediately wake up. I'm not sure if this is only true if the person you killed was in front of them in formation, but it's a very easily reproducible bug that has been around for almost a year if not more.

Menegroth Commons
This plaza is laid with a more mottled kind of cobblestone that is seen
elsewhere in the more high-traffic streets of the city. Bits of mud and

I'll have to do some more testing to see what is really going on then I guess. The OP log is a great example of someone waking up when someone in their group/rank dies, but today I saw the other two general possibilities arise: I put a 3rd rank warlock to sleep and dispelled his elemental, and he didn't wake up, but when I killed his pet he woke up.
Then later, I put a second rank warlock to sleep, killed his elemental which was in front of him, and he didn't wake up at all until I released sleep myself.

Another example from today: In this log, I put the halfling to sleep in the third rank, dispelling his elemental does not wake him up, killing his pet in front of him does wake him up.

Third example: In this log I put a warlock to sleep. Only his elemental is in front of him, and when the elemental dies the warlock does not wake up at all.

If I were to make a guess, the wraiths had spare attacks left but since they couldn't actually strike the second target, since leftover attacks are wasted, it still woke him up as if they were attacked.

That's a really neat idea, but I don't think that's it. In the entire log, the wraiths are getting a consistent 3 attacks. The only situation in which the PC -doesn't- wake up from these logs is when the NPC in front is killed with less than the full complement of attacks (the air elemental) whereas when the komodo dragon is killed with 3 attacks (The full complement every round before) the PC -does- wake up.

Could be the opposite of that logic. If an NPC finishes his round of attacks on a NPC in front of a sleeping PC, the PC gets aggro'd and wakes up. It could also be partially related, in this case, to elementals being targeted versus pets. I've seen plenty of examples where PCs immediately woke up from sleep when tribunal guards in front of them died.
