In another thread, I don't know how viable this would be to put into the game, and certainly not one to put in just yet while enchant/consecrate are getting looked at and balanced.

Quote:
I would rather prefer that a scout can skin <att | saves>. Skin without an argument would produce a blank skin. Attributes and saves would be random, based on the stats of the NPC being skinned. So, a low wisdom and high dexterity creature would more like produce a no willpower/greater reflex skin, or a slight to moderate willpower and moderate reflex for a master, or higher NPC, or the skin would be skinned wrong and take on no saves at all and end up with a blank one.

And:

For a master level skill for scouts, there could be a Reskin, or Leather Work, which would take a skin and allow a scout to work it again. This would let the skin to be refined to either add or remove stats/attributes from a skin, that is already on it, before it is tailored. Once tailored, it cannot be worked.

reskin/leather skin <remove | enhance> attribute/save

If a skin has reflex and magic resistance, the resistance would be a detriment, so the scout would "leather/reskin skin remove MR".

The more you rework a skin, the greater the chance of removing any innates it came with, or destroying the skin itself, like enchanting/consecrating. Attempts will take mostly physical energy and some mental, due to the strain on the mind not to make a mistake and remove/add attributes.

I could also see a veteran to mentor level skill that would allow a scout to take a skin, untailored, and identify its properties.

Assess

This skill would only work on skins and nothing else. On an untailored skin, this would show the protective quality of the skin, the innates that are on it, as well as potential.

This is a skin of a childish noobie, a medium flesh skin, weighing
approximately 10 lbs. Protection is inferior vs. Pierce, inferior vs.
Bash and inferior vs. Slash. It is of noob quality and is worth
approximately -200 silver. It bears an innate endowment to slightly
decrease wisdom. It has potential to increase reflex. It has potential
to increase dexterity.

The potential is not an actual part of the skin. The scout would have to reskin/leather it first to try and draw out those innates. The scout could also attempt to remove the imperfection that is wisdom on the skin.

Assess can also be used on tailored items, but as they have been worked and reshaped, all potential is removed from them.
