If anything, you could probably plot out average daily player count vs. "class balance" in SK's ~15 year history and find a negative correlation.

Well see, to be honest almost any class can take on the necromancer solo, it just when you come against the necromancer that's ethereal, which is in my honest opinion the only thing breaking them. Most classes can use a xbow or a bow, but those things can't do anything against a horde of undead that substantially will be run by a character you can't touch because they are in another plane of existence but their melee dps is still higher then what 2 or 3 people can put out, I could care less about the wraiths and wights and what have you as long as I could shoot the necro and when they went ethereal their undead couldn't just continue to steamroll through everything.

There are so many ethereal scrolls and wands and so many classes that can use them. I do not think ethereal is an issue, yes it's frustrating for some classes but hey every class has another class that frustrates them.

So... Don't let animated undead use weapons? Or make all of their weapons skills so low that its useless to try?

As for whoever this Styles or StylesP person is, I don't feel like arguing with someone who just rolled a sockpuppet account. I will gladly point out Baldric's post where he points out that sure, on paper necros are the most powerful class, but that's okay because they have a sick amount of natural enemies and huge drawbacks and weaknesses. I'll also point out that I haven't had a problem with necros in any of the last couple years I've played SK. I played a peacekeeper warlock who PKed the only active necro at his time into deletion, and a hammer gnome merc that went 1v1 against Peso's necro, and completely dismantled Trag's necro without even a scratch. Anyone who doesn't want to die to a necro and has decent reflexes can easily avoid the spam wraith tactic.

I don't think that this thread keeps saying that I suck at necromancers. It is a lazy class that needs little work to kill a lot of people or being effective in PvP. On the same hand, being lazy lets your enemy kill you very easily. So bleh, don't make me unretire Irition. *fistshakes*

It's really not OK that there is such a massively unbalanced class in the game. In the culture of SK, their enemies are the light aura factions. That's it, just like any dark aura character. There are a few areas where undead get attacked, but so what? It's easy for them to obliterate any NPC that attacks them. In fact, that is already more than balanced out by death shroud, which gives the necromancers easy access to places where other people have to fight their way around. Those NPCs are natural enemies to everyone else on SK, but not the necromancer. Necromancers also have special areas that only they can go very easily. It's a joke to say that the natural enemies of necromancers somehow balance out them being by far the most powerful class. Like I said before, having enemies and susceptibilities to holy magic and the like is a function of being evil, not just being a necromancer. The freedom a diabolic has to use any tactics available without worrying about violating principles must be balanced out by something, and that's it.

Your anecdotal examples are meaningless in the face of undead armies getting 50 attacks/round. And, yet again, you have completely ignored PvE. Are you really going to tell me that necromancers aren't vastly superior to every other class in PvE?

This is just silly. You can say this about any class. You can quaff recall if you have fast reflexes. That usually gets the job done. You could also sit in the middle of nowhere and not get ganked by a necromancer. Just being able to avoid someone or escape over and over until the other guy gets lucky and lands an interdiction right away is not game balance. Being able to have a reliable chance to take someone on one-on-one is, and especially having at least a chance of landing a kill that doesn't require the other guy to screw up royally. Other classes do not have that against necromancers.

For you to have any semblance of an argument, you have to say that necromancers are not vastly superior in PvE to other classes (lol) or that the damage output of undead armies is not excessive. You also have to be able to argue that if animates capped out at 35th level instead of 50th level that necromancers would somehow be worse than other classes. They would not. They would still be very powerful with their controls, ability to use scrolls, wands, and staves, and the great spells at their disposal - not to mention still having a small army of 35th level barbarians, and retaining "order all bash." Let's see you make the argument that I'm wrong about those three things, because everything else is inapposite to the reality of this discussion.
