Many classes are screwed by the stat reductions. I know, I would like them to have some sort of buff for living that long

A character is not good solely, or even chiefly, because of his longevity. It's determined by quality. I'd much rather spend a week playing with a character who had strong RP, a solid backstory and made the game come alive than play with someone who walked around saying "i get plate drops kk" for 2 years.

I'm fine with granting bonuses to longer-lived characters. I am not fine with granting exclusive bonuses to longer lived characters, because that in effect is penalizing everyone else. Even then, I don't think that any sort of bonus for playing a long-lived character should be anything more than a fringe benefit. Playing a high-quality character should make you want to keep that character in and of itself, you shouldn't need some intense gameplay mechanic to incentivize it. An extra spec slot for mercs was a good option, because mercs always lose at the age ticks: That wasn't as much a buff to them as an offset to the innate penalty.

My initial thought was nothing too demanding. Something along 3 possible levels which can be attained pretty fast too:
1st point of expertise in 1 year
2nd in 5 years
3rd in 10 years

This means that if you have a character that plays 2.5months, he will get full bonus. This is not a long time and by 2.5months one will know if he wants to continue or not.

The proposed time is not absolute, but gives an idea. I would still be fine if it was:
-4
-8
-12

Which means that you improve your chosen expertise once a month and you reach maximum efficiency in the dawn of the 4th month.

I really like this idea, but I can kind of see where Edoras is coming from with his quality vs longevity argument. Maybe, in order to encourage well-played, long-term characters, the formula for receiving this bonus could involve played time and enlights, perhaps in a similar way that the PAR system works?

We already get enough from extra stat trains from mentoring. There are stat boosts to mental stats as well. Mercs get an extra spec slot.

I'm not sure what else we need.

This sums things up much better.

To hell with sobbing, I will write you nasty e-mails every day if you do this. :P

Why? I realize this is a fantasy world in a fantasy game but honestly, we should expect some realism. Our characters are not all geniuses and savants. We should not be able to go spam-master level, skill and spell in the first week.

"Hi! My name is (Insert Char Name) and I'm a genius that has learned all there is to learn in the first year of my adult life!" ?????

Not very realistic...

There needs to be a balance and mastering all of your skills and spells in such a short time period is insane. Or maybe I am because I prefer to learn as my character actually progresses as a person.

It's not insane. Most people do not spam-level their skillset, and if you do not think it's appropriate for your character to do so, don't. Most people, however, also do not equate a mastered skill-set with savancy, as there is nothing that stops people from mastering holy word and then casting holy symbol instead. Think of it as an extra step in "training" and you'll be on your way to getting my POV.

Anyways, guess D's spoken on that one, no need to get long winded. Mentor points already reward long-lived characters, and isn't the Loyalty Token system going to provide similar incentive?

On a different note, we should not really limit PK with RP factors.

So probably this idea is not as good eventually.
