It isn't whining. It's absolutely right. Racking up such ridiculous sentences is actually quite harmful to the game and lends itself to abuse. I could imagine someone being malicious, and lame enough to charm a person and drag him to a city where he is wanted, so that he can be arrested; or even enough of a loving spineless friendly to wait for him to get the jump on him as soon as he is released, or to disrupt rescue attempts.
Short answer: If it is easier to delete than to deal with a prison sentence, then we need a cap.

Did you say this knowing that this is exactly what happened?

One of OA's mages did that to someone. Another favorite is when a player has such a grudge against another player that they will not pardon a character who is willing to make restitution for their crimes that are now over a certain period of time. Come on...if someone isn't making war on your nation like they were or whatever, you should be willing to work out an arrangement. Even if it is, serve your time and we'll lift your banishment.

Another avenue for abuse: If I were awesome at PK, I could just keep rolling new characters, kill and full loot everyone I saw, go to jail willingly, and never, ever, ever have any real consequences.

Most characters who do that don't last very long.

Okay . . .

I'm not taking up the side of the whiner, but consider that Dulrik WANTS conflict in the game. That a PLAYER should be punished for OOC weeks, depending on their availability, for creating it seems a bit harsh. Yes, yes. By all means, punish the character. But seriously . . . making an alt isn't really a solution.

I'm with you Evena, but for whatever reason, that concept is something that neither Dulrik nor a large portion of the player base seems to be able to grasp. They just play their favorite tune about not doing the crime.

DON'T DO THE CRIME IF U CANT DO TEH TIME JHORLEB!!!!!

I think there should be a cap on jail time at like 40 days or whatever. Taking someone out of the picture for that long is reward enough for the victory.

Well, if this problem is really so rampant, then why not try to ask for a hard-coded system that promotes diplomacy? I realize that coding can be a pain, but I'm of the mind that it would be a better alternative to just putting a cap on the character's punishment. Something to reward both the parolee and the one granting the parole/pardon? It could be abused, sure, so it'd have to be monitored, but I think that if anything were to be changed, the change should be geared more towards encouraging diplomacy rp rather than just saying, "Oh, you've accrued <this much> time in jail? Well, heck, doesn't that suck? Tell you what, kill as many people as you want, we'll just forget to tack on the time."

These threads only ever pop up after a character is jailed/punished, blah, blah, blah. Guess what, your character can be broken out of jail. It's a viable option. However, if you don't want to serve a massive jail sentence then don't compile huge lists of crimes. And certainly don't come whining to the forums when your character is caught.

Threads like these make people like me think that you want the freedom to do whatever you want, and [REDACTED] the other people, what happens to you is the only thing that matters. IE you don't take into consideration the other people that play the game and have to deal with massive piles of [REDACTED] you can pour out. I don't mean this to you specifically, Kin, but there are many players like this.

I need to go back and check if there are any idiotic posts from Edoras, a person that purposefully accrues massive crimes, and then whines about what he did.

Personally, I think there should be a cap on whining, and stupidity, but I guess both of the things we want are outside the bounds of what Dulrik wants.

Yes, but then where would YOU go?

I very rarely ever end up in prison. I simply see the need for a change. The idea that a player should stare at a screen for forty hours, or risk bringing his friends into an equally bad scenario is absurd.
