Yeah, I'm with Ardith here. Why do you feel so entitled to play a character that gets to murder everyone without eventual -serious- consequence?

Eh, people like Edoras would still kill tons of NPCs in hopes of getting reported so that they could farm bounty NPCs, and then complain that they have to serve a mountain of jail time if ever caught.

Basically it's a case of people wanting their cake and eating it too.

...After looking at the outlaw list for Mephistir I'm dumbfounded as to the audacity to post this thread.

Code:
The following individual is a fugitive from justice: Mephistir.

The fugitive has the following description:
This miniscule Sprite is only a mere eight inches tall.  His limbs are
short and stocky giving him an athletic appearance.  His hair and skin are
as white as the purest snow, contrasted by the crimson hue of his eyes.  Two
snowy wings with black veins protrude from just beneath his shoulder blades.
Resembling the shape of a dragonfly, they are massive in comparison to his
size and crackle with electricity giving off a celestial aura from their
rapid movements.  Also you notice...

The criminal Mephistir has been convicted of the following crimes:
-  Attempted murder of a Peacekeeper soldier at 12am, Dark Shades 7th, 1240 T.A.
-  Attempted murder of Gord at 5pm, Dark Shades 6th, 1240 T.A.
-  Attempted murder of Utirna at 4pm, Winter Wolf 19th, 1238 T.A.
-  Attempted murder of Ferdinand Lionheart at 3pm, Winter Wolf 19th, 1238 T.A.
-  Attempted murder of a brawny male half-elf at 4pm, Heat 24th, 1237 T.A.
-  Attempted murder of a decorated female half-elf at 7pm, Heat 23rd, 1237 T.A.
-  Murder of a brawny male half-elf at 7pm, Heat 23rd, 1237 T.A.
-  Attempted murder of a lanky female human at 7pm, Heat 23rd, 1237 T.A.
-  Attempted murder of Tylinda at 10am, Spring 22nd, 1234 T.A.
-  Murder of an active elven boy at 12am, Heat 24th, 1237 T.A.
-  Attempted murder of a Peacekeeper soldier at 12am, Dark Shades 7th, 1240 T.A.

Seriously, gtfo here.

I mean in real life you would be jailed for life and no chance of escape or parole. A few days won't kill you. A week or even a month won't kill you. Gives your diabolic character time to stew, plot, and get someone to pardon you or break you out of jail.

Real life is probably a pretty poor precedent to use for any conversation about SK. In real life The Hammer of Light, and the Crucible of Shadows would both be considered international terrorists, and permanent fugitives.
This isn't a game a bout real life, this is a fantasy world where ideological differences justify murder, and killers go to jail for one day. The biggest problem I see is a flaw in the reporting system. As I understand it, if five NPCs witness you kill five bounty-mobs you will be reported for twenty five murders. It seems like a bug to me.
On top of this, at a certain point it DOES become an OOC punishment to make somebody deal with that crap. Yes, sending hassling tells is entertaining for a little bit. Sometimes I do it when I'm NOT in prison, but quite frankly the only lighties I've met who aren't total douche-nuggets aren't in charge of anything, so it wouldn't help my case in jail at all. The rest just stop receiving tells. Yelling can also be fun. Especially things like "Free (char name)" and "Justive delayed is justice denied," but it gets old fast. Notes are alright I guess, but I think I fat-fingered a ctrl button at some point and now my C-MUD client disconnects me after more than two minutes of inactivity. Kind of makes writing letters difficult, and you haven't got anywhere to post them, since there isn't a message board in the jail. Can we add an astral board to the jails?

When you account for SK's accelerated time line, I don't think any killers go to jail for one day.

That would indeed be a bug. In that situation, the judge should say:

"This crime has already been reported."
"However, thank you for your cooperation."

Please post a log in bug discussion proving that this is not working correctly.

I'm not complaining about jail time. I have a long list of bugs to fix that have already been verified by players.

I was going to agree with a cap on jail time until I learned your hours can be burned while offline.

At 1/10 the rate, though.

I always avoided long lists of crimes, primarily because I did not want to have to deal with bounty NPCs, and the incredibly long sentences that go along with killing 1000 bounty NPCs. I still think bounty NPCs need to be reworked but at least they're different from when I started playing.

I'm not complaining about my long sentence, I am just saying that the "log on an alt" alternative isn't available to people who actually wage tribunal war.

I can agree with this, but it also makes me wonder what kind of creative leverage that tribunal members in jail can come up with. Like Callie (being greybie) might have paroled Surrit in jail if he agreed never to attack Exile again, though I doubt they'll be another grey Taslamaran leader any time soon.
