I'm curious now, when did Dulrik allow for a greater chance to swashies to parry massives in defensive stance? I could have sworn that was a change he made, but I can't find it now.

I realize that you have played a swashie, Jennbo, but did you swashie ever reach lightning dex in a PvP situation with mood defensive up? You would have seen some "super-dodge" if so, I bet.

I have a feeling that with the speed enchantments to massives that swashies are going to need some love, BUT I haven't seen any swashies since the buff to parrying massives on mood defensive, and I also am not positive whether the weapon enchant system should be considered a buff to swashies, a nerf to them, or just neutral.

I don't know if I ever reached lightning dex, but haste and GM on mood defensive sure didn't make a lick of difference. I also had a little Fistie swashie with lightning dex to test it out, and it was pretty fast too, but not against massive weapons. Of course, no weapons.

The weapon enchant system isn't going to fix the vulnerabilities of a swashbuckler, IMO. Because the massive weapons are just as well enchanted. A great-axe to the chest from a heavy-armor character with buffs is going to own the hell out of a light-armor swashbuckler no matter how fast they are or how enchanted their quick weapons are. But yeah, maybe some more testing is needed.

Either way, Sargas says no packages are coming to swashies for quite a while.

It's not that it's quite a while, it's that there's totally other stuff that we'd rather focus on in the immediate future.

Simple solution, delete the class.

Can the same attention to bring Necros in balance have the same attention to bring swashies in balance?

I'm not convinced that swashbucklers are worthless, but at the same time they're [REDACTED] boring.

You know with your massive weapon spec'd merc you'd kill a swash in a couple rounds. Idk how that is not worthless.

A quick peek at a log I posted awhile back when I played a claymore spec'd merc. Unenchanted claymore, even.

Your aggressive move destroys your sanctuary spell!
The white aura around your body fades.
Cazaril yells 'Iey! Gohrr is attempting to kill me!'
You slash at Cazaril's chest, causing a deep gash.
You slash Cazaril's chest, causing a gaping wound!
You slash at Cazaril's head, causing a small but painful wound.
You strike suddenly, slashing at Cazaril's chest! Some GUTS fall!

[HP: 94%] [ME: 78%] [PE: 46%]

Cazaril's freezing bite barely burns your chest.
You dodge Cazaril's attack.
The grey wolf tries to bite at your head, but her blow is deflected by a
diamond armet engraved with a rose.
The grey wolf tries to bite at your right arm, but her blow is deflected by a
set of gleaming tanso steel pauldrons.
Bryarc slashes at your chest, causing a deep gash.
You parry Bryarc's attack.
You parry Bryarc's attack.
You parry Bryarc's attack.
The grey wolf gets a wild look in her eyes.
The grey wolf bites at your chest, causing a deep gash.
The grey wolf misses you.
You parry the grey wolf's natural attack!
You slash at the grey wolf's left arm, tearing open a big bleeding wound!
You strike suddenly, slashing at Cazaril's chest! Some GUTS fall!
You slash at Cazaril's head, leaving a big scar across his face!
You slash Cazaril's chest HARD, cutting through his ribs!
Overall, Cazaril looks pretty hurt.

You evade Bryarc's bash and he falls flat on his face.

[HP: 85%] [ME: 78%] [PE: 45%]

Cazaril rides a spirit steed east.
Cazaril has fled!
Bash who?! what?!

Few more hits and he was dead. I accomplished this in a few pieces of tanso steel armor and an unenchanted claymore. This shows how much effort it takes to kill a swashbuckler with a massive weapon.

Massive weapons have been nerfed since that log. Maybe with enough accuracy, stance defensive, swashes would do better? Tough to say without some testing being done.

"Worthless" is a strong word. Taunt is better than any spell in the game. You cannot even enchant against it. It's the only way to kill a lot of characters.

Taunt is sexy, but you need a LOT of help from vials and such to be viable alone as a swash.
