It completely baffles me why anyone would want to be an imm. It seems like all of the work and none of the fun of playing. Plus you have to deal with players...

Seems like it would be a cool job to have, but then I also enjoy being a tribunal leader so maybe I'm just weird.

It really is a thankless job. That being said, the game requires good admins to function.

This is why you should hire me and Syn. We're already universally hated, and don't give a [REDACTED].

Oh don't get me wrong. I'm really glad there are people willing to step up to it. I just don't understand what entices them to it in the first place. And I -really- don't understand why they keep at it once players start complaining.

Everything has its downsides. Playing SK sucks sometimes, and sometimes people whine and complain about you whether you're an IMM or not. Personally, I would enjoy being an IMM. I would enjoy the fact that at best, players are complaining because you're doing your job, and at worst, they're complaining because you're doing a poor job and you can learn from it.

Ultimately, being an IMM would be something very enjoyable for me. I'd like to be able to reward players who played the game in a way that benefited others, and police the mud so that people who played the game in a way that hurt others (cheating for example) would be punished for it instead of rewarded by not being caught. Being an IMM is certainly more of a thankless job than any other role in SK, but it is certainly required, and there's enjoyment to be had even in spite of all the times people might freak out at you.

Then again, I already play a necro, so maybe I'm just used to playing from a point of view that requires a lot of work with very little reward to speak of for it.

Many of them do not last. It's called imm burn-out and it happens to pretty much everyone. I am probably only immune because I build walls of code around myself and get involved with player squabbles as little as possible.

Even getting paid really well wasn't enough to get me to stick out a game admin job.

I feel bad for all imms. (But appreciate them!)

Dang, only a few posts about peso and nothing positive? You are going to crush the poor guy.

I can see the appeal of being an IMM. Nobody can jloot you. You don't have to enchant a suit or gather herbs/potions. You can RP being a complete badass without having to worry about whether you have the skill to back it up. You can learn where all the loot is and how stuff works. You can troll players extremely effectively. You can jump into NPCs and have a blast organizing some kind of RP. People can whine all they want, but they can't actually -do- anything to you. If a player rages at you, there's nothing stopping you from just laughing in their faces and getting their characters blocked.

Damn it Peso, why you do this!?

Being an IMM would be great, I've tried to become one for years, in my early years I was a twink and a cheater so that's probably why it's never happened.
