A stately, heavy-framed camel is standing too close to the lock.

So I own this camel but apparently he doesn't want me to pick this lock.

At least somebody in your group has a moral compass. You probably tried to "mount" him earlier too, didn't you?

It's just a minor inconvenience to have to take your pet to the next room and order it to sit.
Or have to kill an npc because they're too close to the lock that they weren't intentionally guarding in the first place.
If hide could bypass people watching me pick, that would be cool.

It's pretty idiotic that an non-sentient being (let alone one that you command) be a problem when you want to pick a lock.

Out of curiosity what were your group positions? Where you perhaps behind the camel?

NPCs that are not in your group should probably not block you from picking the lock.

There's some kind of check that happens when a PC tries to pick a lock in the same room as NPCs. If the NPC has level or some other kind of advantage over the rogue/bard in question, you get that message.

Sorry I misposted. I meant to say NPCs IN your group should not block you.

How about NPC's that can't even see you? via hide/invis.
