Ethics died forever ago. Talking about them, is of no real use. The SK population either has left or has capitulated to the "My Ego is to crush your Ego" theme.

This is incorrect.

Sorry, that I am jaded, but doesn't necessarily make it untrue. It is the end result of so called 'freedom,' as opey calls it.

The part that is incorrect is that the ENTIRETY of the SK population that is still here just wants to crush others egos. It's just not true. I can verify that because I, myself, don't wish to crush anyone's ego here, and I am certain that I'm not alone.

Maybe it's perception. All you see are the people coming to smash you in the ground, when what you don't see is that, at the exact same time you're caught up in the heat of battle, there are people going together out on an adventure just having fun talking with each other while they are exploring the magical lands of Pyrathia.

I am sorry that, based on what you see, everyone is out to destroy each other's ego, but that isn't entirely the fault of the playerbase. It is up to the individual players to change their perception at times, and perhaps change their play-style on a new character to one less active in the PK scene to really see that it isn't all arrows and swordplay.

Ignore Rodwen, all of his characters are only out to PK newbs so he can crush their egos. He also wants to take your guns.

I know when I roll a character, the first thing I think is, "how can I ruin someone else's day today with this character?"

You know it's true. I'm pretty sure Jennbo's got the record for "how many people can I kill with one spell" <3 Faerti

So many things here to cover them all, but let's try for the highlights:

Helping new players, to me, is the most important thing in SK. With our lower player counts and cyclical burnout of long time players, new blood is the best hope for SK. Helping an obviously new player to me takes priority over anything else.

IC and OOC need to stay to themselves as much as can be done. Always try IC before going OOC.

Given the size of the SK player base OOC is unavoidable. IC has to be a subset of OOC given that people can't play IC concepts they can't come up with on an OOC level. All IC is a modification of OOC judgement. Chances are the IC characters you don't like on an OOC level are played by the same players of past characters you didn't like either. I do my best to avoid these players and characters as they take away from my enjoyment. I do enjoy being pleasantly surprised to find out a player I previously didn't enjoy rolled a character I thought was brilliant.

As much as your enjoyment matters to you, one has to assume the same is true for everyone else. If the things that make you happy make someone else unhappy they will respond accordingly. If you don't make some effort to help others obtain the enjoyment they are after odds are you'll find yourself isolated.

I try to treat other characters and by extension other players as if they are believers in the golden rule. If they jloot me, they must be comfortable being jlooted. If they PK me, they must love PK against them. This is all assuming they are the first to bring up issues of possible disagreement. If I'm the one who starts something I do my best to minimize OOC headaches. If I kill someone I try to make sure a priest is on who'll resurrect them. I try not loot unless looted first. I try to give every opportunity to avoid PK in favor of RP.

Enjoy.
