What are your tricks to improve it.

I find that a lot of chars reach there "goal" of creation and that is the end of them. Of late I have been hearing a few people feeling under pressure for outside reasons making playing feel less fun. My question is how do you improve the longevity of your char.
Personally I find that I have more longevity on chars I create with short and long term goals with the long term goals reasonably unattainable. The achievement of the short term goals enables me to feel like I am achieving something with the char the longer term goals stop me from quitting once I have gotten somewhere.

I also find leveling over time helps me feel more committed to the char. This does not mean level slowly rather space it over time.

Being diplomatic in all things helps as well flash points should have some cooling off afterwards them so that you do not burn out.

A few thoughts from myself about improving the longevity of my char. Im curious about other people and what they do to try to help their char get long in the tooth.

My character is 134 weeks old and averages a total of 9.5 hours per week over the course of that lifetime. However, I have gone months where I played the hell out of her and months where I didn't log in much.

I have alts for when it was boring to be a principled lightie that bites her tongue and tries to play nice (she's a bit more spicy in her old age, but she feels like she's earned the right to be).

I have a fluid character concept that constantly changes as the interactions and events in Iliphalia's life unfold. Not giving your character room to grow and evlove is a death sentence.

I have long-term goals that I set for her at the beginning that I never thought she'd finish, like you. She has accomplished some of these despite my skepticism -- part of the whole fluid concept thing.

I want to push the like button on this thread. I have such horrid commitment issues with my characters, I could use a few tips.

I've only age-deathed one character, and that was thanks to Objective Analyst. OA's character was such a huge jerk to my character, both my character and I wanted nothing more than to prove OA/OA's character wrong. (OA's character said something along the lines of my character being just another name, someone who's just going to give up without accomplishing anything, etc.)

So I guess you could say it was a mature conflict. Having an enemy you can (and constantly do) roleplay with. And not just RPK, either.

I do this as well. I think it's very important, and it's my favorite aspect of playing a character.

As far as hours played, that is somewhere around 2700- 2800. Since her age death I play her at least once a month. The amount of time depends on the characters around when I log and if they have any interest RPing with a ghost. RP is the only thing she can do, so if it isn't there, I log out. I rolled her in the summer I think of 2008.

Getting her to this point I think was sort of a mix of things. There were other characters I enjoyed logging on to adventure with and throughout her life I met a ton of different people so partially I enjoyed keeping her just to see what new/other players would come up with. I also came up with little projects to amuse myself. I made a card catalog of every book in SK. I also stared doing tarot readings in game which was a lot of fun for me. Those were both later in her life though. I guess when I started her, I had the idea, but no real goals for her to accomplish so I never felt as though I was "done" with the character. I let her evolve as the world around her evolved so she was never so static that I had trouble adjusting. I also took a couple breaks. Most were just a week or two here and there, but I did have a long 3 month one right about the middle of her life when I was having a number of rl issues that needed more of my attention. Finally, she just hit an age where I had something like 3 or 4 months till she age died and I figured, why delete now.
