I remember participating in a couple of 30 page threads immediately before and after necros were nerfed. The consensus was that we'd have to wait and see how good they were now. I'm curious if anyone has bothered playing this class since the changes, or if anyone has had success with the class. I'm fairly confident that they are still decent, but I'm not sure why someone would make a necro instead of a sorc.

Sorcerer had necromancer beat before the nerfs because of utility. The only thing necromancers can literally do is PK. All the crap that a necromancer can do, a sorcerer could do, and better. Except for maybe NPC rush an unsuspecting helpless newb, or solo cabal raids. I think necromancers are still good at what they do, being loners with overwhelming power, but from a social perspective, the sorcerer has them beat in spades.

Those shadowy wights are good enough on their own on the dps. They've got maledictions, and are surprisingly tough to kill in the hands of a good player. Surrit is hands down the top pk necromancer, and it pretty much speaks for itself that he's only ever died when the player has [REDACTED] up and murdered himself.

It seems that they cannot reliably solo larger groups anymore. Nor can they demolish the entire MUD in PvE. They are reasonable and still very deadly.

I have a feeling that you have the exact same amount of actual data to back up your claims now as you did in the past.

I'm still waiting for you to play a necro, Styles, now that they're apparently crappy enough to warrant your attention.

It's true. I don't know for sure. It may still be possible for necros to easily handle larger groups and demolish PvE. It's my understanding that this is not the case, but I could be wrong about that. Do you think it is still easy for necros to solo larger groups and run all over PvE?

Sorc>Necro

Necros are pretty much glass cannons but with more emphasis on the glass.
