Edoras, it'd be hard for me to make a good list because there have been a lot of code updates since I played. I will do my best, though. I also won't list the same class twice, for the sake of brevity. Also, to clarify, to rank high on my list, a combination would have to excel against a majority, if not all, of the race/class combos he is likely to face. I am also assuming that the combination is played by a skilled player who can get the most out of his character, and that he is facing skilled opponents who are capable of exploiting his weaknesses (otherwise necromancer and rogue get would be ranked much higher). Also, my list is probably affected by my own strengths and weaknesses as a player. For example, I have a much easier time picturing myself being successful with a human paladin in the keepers than any kind of necromancer, though obviously some people will disagree with me ranking paladin above necro. Shaman also would have been ranked much higher if it were not for their general inability to lock down their targets and land a kill, and their impotence vs MR barbs. Priest is a great class but very weak in solo pvp.

Barbarian, Hammer, Human
Mercenary, Hammer, Human
Sorcerer, MC, deep-elf,
Paladin, Peacekeepers, Human
Necromancer, MC, deep-elf,
Swashbuckler, Hammer, Human
Shaman, peacekeeper, Human
Scout, druid, centaur
Warlock, druid, halfling
Hellion (Ain), MC, half-elf,
Rogue, peacekeepers, human,
Bard, GoA, Elf
Priest (thuban edit: uh, actually I mean Ain), MC, halfling

My list might be innaccurate because of code changes. For example, now that AP and MP are different enchantments, warlocks might be able to do damage with their spells.

It's a challenge to come up with the precise top five combinations of class, race, and faction. I think it looks something like this though:

1. MC Sprite Necromancer
2. MC Human Necromancer
3. MC Halfling Necromancer
4. MC Delf Necromancer
5. MC Sprite Sorcerer
Coming from someone who has admittedly never played a PK-prolific necromancer, you seem to be overly confident in their supremacy. Funny how the grass is always greener on the other side.

Baldric, I'd put sprite MC sorc way over deep-elf.

Necromancers have a lot of power, but also a lot of weakness. Most effective solo pvp class is and always has been Sorc. The sad thing is that on the bottom of the power spectrum are still swashbucklers. Wish they'd get some love already.

Yeah, we've had that argument before. I think the extra int is worth the BoG weakness. Now that you can target enchants and get MR, I'd definitely go delf over sprite, but to each, his own.

I'd go delf if it wasn't MC, for sure. The innate flight with no casting penalty is actually a really big factor now, and since concentration applies on magical devices, being able to run around with 2 charms just isn't as useful as it used to be, as that completely precludes you from using petrification/FoD scrolls, or even gating with a wand or scroll.

Besides, if you are really twinking you go dogmatic MC sprite.

I'd get a flying mount or something. Our previous argument was over whether the change to magical items and concentration made 25 int more useful or less useful. I maintain that it makes it more useful. No reason to rehash the argument here, though.

I don't remember it honestly. I guess after seeing how powerful Cowlishaw was I reconsidered. Being able to enchant for MR is a good point though.

I just want to ask about the human merc in the fist, spec'd in archery bow and ki straps behind a pet, I think that solo would be very very scarey if done correctly.

Fist merc is certainly not terrible, but mercs don't need to be in the Fist to do damage in the front rank.
