will cause you to hit yourself and attack your pets.

You hit yourself. What an idiot you are!
A matte-black halberd stops following you.
You pierce at a matte-black halberd's forehead, causing a small gash.
A matte-black halberd walks south.

It's because the order of people in the room is last in, first listed. You're green-eyed and you walk into a room where a green-haired gnome is. Every command where you target green will target yourself, because as the room goes, you're the first person in the list. Works just like inventory. Have a few things with red in it? Drop red drops the first thing listed.

You're doing it wrong. Not the game.

The algorithm is set to target the first object in the room when there is no argument. The game is correctly identifying your pet as the first target in the room. Move along.

I don't think it should throw the whole group into chaos

Oh I agree, it shouldn't cause your group to disband and throw your party into chaos, but what I said is the way it works, and should work. The bug isn't that you target yourself. It's that it broke up your group and caused you to fight your pet.

The silly part here is aggroing your own pet. I have no idea why this happens.

What gets me is that there are checks for cleave that prevent you from attacking your own group, but the same code doesn't exist elsewhere.

wtf Dulrik?

If I have a 'golden' adjective pet, and I walk into a room with a golden monster, will 'kill gold' target my pet?

absolutely. This is why it's considered bad form to have an adjective that's similar to a pet or guard that you know you'll be traveling with. In many cases, it's considered code abuse. Many a iridescent cutlasses and matte-black halberds have died on the way to the Temple of Murder because they are considered golems, and golems are killed on the way to ToM.
