The relative easy fix of changing casting messages in the Different Magics thread got me thinking. Do any of you have suggestions, changes or pet peeves for easy ansi upgrades in the code that might improve relative game aesthetics?
My examples just RP that everything has a black background:
Ansi for spear of faith depending on alignment
Quote:
Baltus utters the words, 'gszabra ay yauhp'.
A bright spear of light appears in Baltus's hand!
Baltus's faithful spear sails wide, but a cowled figure still cringes in pain.
You utter the words, 'gszabra ay yauhp'.
A dim spear of darkness appears in your hand!
You toss your glowing spear at a legionnaire captain and rejoice as it hits him.
Elementals
Have you seen the descs of elementals conjured in the dreamscape? They look awesome! Wish there was a quest or item that you could turn them to their dream counterparts much like there was a way back in the day for Yenko to turn air elementals to ice elementals. That said, please please please anisify regular elementals!
Quote:
A water elemental silently awaits a command.
An earth elemental silently awaits a command.
So forth.
Spirit Aura/Devotion
Does it bother anyone that the two spells that give room echoes when you take damage, spirit aura and Aludra’s devotion are both the same ansi color? No? Just me...? OK, well, it makes sense for Aludra’s to be hot pink, but I always found it a bit strange that the spirits would chime in the color pink as they are flying through your enemies, maybe gray, brown, regular magenta?
Color Spray
I am not entirely sure about this one myself because of the annoying aspect, should color spray have blinking text when it does a critical hit/blind? Also, always felt the spell should be bright yellow or white rather than red.
Holy Word
Here is the old bait and switch, since this suggestion is not completely easy and would require some extra coding, but for being high level room effect spell of clerical magic that his or her god’s power channels through and leaves you exhausted, it kinda lacks a visual punch. I always thought it would be kind of neat that the spell would make an echo after casting and before the damage starts popping up where an actual holy word is spoken, the holy word would be called at random depending on the faith of the priest and each of the three spheres the god holds. As a rough draft:
Quote:
Priestbob utters the words, 'parl xafe'.
Priestbob utters a word of divine power!
The avatar of Alshain exclaims ‘Purification[Courage/Righteousness]!’
Priestbob's divine wrath hits a lady necro omg.
A wraith no longer looks so mighty.
A wraith is no longer moving so quickly.
Etc.
Thoughts? Suggestions?
