So I was rping with Talaeyon and went ooc with him and a friend and learned that he is on a screen reader. How difficult would it be to help him with some sounds that trigger when his health is low or he is prone? That way he could use the sounds of the game instead of waiting the 4-5 seconds to read and respond. Could anyone with any coding experience work something out for a screen reader client?

Very easy, assuming he is using a mushclient/zmud/cmud.

He has it working for some things but not all things.
I believe he needs some assistance. I'm happy he's been on again consistently.

If he's reading this, I'd urge him to post his specific requests into the Clients forum. I'm extremely receptive to any requests to help the visually impaired that require code changes. But it sounds like what he wants is very do-able with a client-side script, so I'd rather let a client wizard like Finney help him out for those types of things.

If it turns out to not be possible, I'll see what I can do on the server side.

I don't think he has a forumid. One thing he has a problem with is his client doesn't let him seel cabal/tribunal chats. Helping him with that would be a huge fix also.

He may find that adjusting his prompt and adding some scripts can help with hitpoints.

Check out the help files for the prompt: instead of percentages, you can get adjectives for your energy levels.

There's also the "glance self" command which gives more prosaic (and accurate) information on your character's condition. Give that a try?

Depending on the speed of the reader, nospam might help make it easier to keep up with fights.

You can disable the output of various things like room descriptions if you plan on moving around fast. Check out the help file for the auto command, or just type "auto," if memory serves.

Under no circumstances use VT mode.

What does he consider low health? 20% or less? It is quite easy to make zMUD beep or play a sound file based on a pattern from the game.

My scripts already highlight/print a message to the screen for all the output that will put a character in a prone position, so adding a sound wouldn't be a problem.

What sort of sound does he want played? A simple beep or something else? If he has a specific sound in mind, upload the file somewhere - doesn't matter the format, I can convert if necessary.

He uses Zmush or mushZ something like that. I believe it was a mush client written with screen readers in mind. One real issue right now is cable tribunal chat and the problems with [Cable/tribunal] activating a trigger most likely because [ and ] are specials and thus the meaning is changed from trigger on the pattern to trigger on some kind of random statement. Im too far removed from the program to know the codes or such and Im too lazy to learn a new language to help out although I did do some poking no luck so far.

As a side note yes Finney your triggers work awesome with sound in Cmud.

I will take the [] out of the tribunal/cabal chat when accessibility mode is on for the next update.

Tonight, I updated cb/tb and the who command to work better in accessibility mode. Please let me know if it's working better for Talaeyon.
