Large lakes, I suppose on rivers it would be a bank, not a coastline, but oceans aren't the only water body. :P

But they are the only coastlines.

Vehicles have been a concept that we've toyed with since the beginning of SK, but the code for it turns out to be EXTREMELY difficult to implement effectively. We've crashed the mud pretty severely in the past while working and playing with them. There is code that exists for it and they remain a possibility for the future, but I expect they will continue to be pushed back to make way for other concepts that are more feasibly implemented with the limited time available to work on such things. Don't lose hope, but don't hold your breath. ;)

On another mud, I have a broom that can seat 8 people and travel 7-8 rooms per three seconds. It's a novelty, to be sure.

Which means it can be done, though it may not be EASILY done.
I thought it might be neat to have a purchasable ship (they'd be EXPENSIVE) that might come with a crew to handle the siege weapons for you (meaning that you would not need to be in a cabal to use them, since they are done "automatically" by a NPC) but would themselves be vulnerable. It would be possible to cripple a ship by killing the crew members. I'd also envisioned it as being used like an actual ship, you could sail it into an enemy harbor, and start laying siege to his coasts, perhaps using trebuchettes to kill guards and citizens, from leagues away.
The whole thing needs fleshing out, but I liked the idea, and was just wondering what the other players might have thought.

Vehicles have been on the roadmap for 18 years. And probably still will be in another 18 years, but you never know. It could be that all the more important ideas will have been completed before then, but we always seem to come up with new ones (that end up being more important).

If I'm still playing in 18 years I'll be shocked.

I'm sure there are people who thought that 18 years ago -- but are still playing!

I'm one of them...well...sixteen years, but that's just splitting hairs.
