I think it would be a neat tweak to the law code to not allow ghosts/dead people to report crimes. That way if a sneak attack were successfully carried out, the person who committed it could have some chance of getting away with it. The ghost would still be able to tell her other PC friends once resurrected, so it's not like people would be unable to respond. To convince a magistrate, though, should require a live witness.

You can not report well dead. You can however remember who killed you to report it. This is because of a restriction in the law code.
You can not banish someone who you know is a a murder until you have a number of crimes to their name. You can not get a crime for attacking a tribunal only if you kill them. This is because of past abuse. If this was implemented tribunals would need both those things back. Which make for a worse time than being reported after killing someone. If your reported before someone is back alive chances are it was just a citizen who reported you for it. Also this would encourage less interaction with the killed player making them feel there is less RP involved.

Oops. I wasn't very clear. I meant that dead people should forget all crimes they have witnessed and should not be able to report to a magistrate any crimes they see as a ghost, or any crimes they witnessed before dying once they are resurrected.

That way a successful sneak attack where all targets/witnesses are eliminated will not result in crimes being reported.

Edit:

Leaving the original post intact, let's clarify that these people would not "forget" all the crimes. That may have been a poor choice of words. I simply meant that these crimes should not be eligible for reporting to a judge.

I think that's a stupid idea, in a world where souls and memories last long after death and resurrections are commonplace.

As I said in my post. If the player base could be trusted with the law code it would be a lot better. How ever it has proven it can not be. I would rather what we have now than when people got banished for looking at each other funny.

There are already ways to handle being reported for crimes. Ask around in-game.

In case you didn't notice I suggested making it harder to report people, not easier.

Given you do not get a crime for attacking a tribunal member. Unless you actually kill them is because of code abuse if your idea was implemented it would need to be reversed. Opening up the abuse again. Else if you succeed there is no crime and if you fail there is no crime what does the law code even do ...
Given there are already ways in game to avoid law code, that do not fool players but fools AI. I think your idea lacks the foresight of what will happen if its implemented.

I don't think anything else needs to be changed. For the same reasons as always, attacking a trib member would need to remain not a crime.

This is a phenomenally terrible idea, completely out of concept for the way the game works, and the resistance to reversing the "not a crime unless you stun/kill" in context of this idea combined with the class you currently play pretty much tells me that you're just looking for a way to walk around backstabbing people with no legal risk.

Let's be clear though: This idea is terrible on its own merits, you pushing it for your own momentary gain is just equally as bad.
