Won't prevent equipment transfers to storage characters.

It will happen. Just sit around with all of your geared friends when the enemy can't pose a threat.

It's not like the scales haven't been tipped in favor of one side for more than a month in the past.

What about a lone light/dark character who is regularly outnumbered? Are they meant to lose gear because they don't have active allies but someone else does? If you're on the losing side, you also shouldn't have gear?

If you are outnumbered and alone, it is probably a good idea to RP defeat and ask for a truce. If you decide to start or remain at war with an enemy that has both superior numbers and tactical advantages (like gear) and you end up dying - you pretty much asked for it.

You're treading into a topic that is worthy of another thread really: the inability and unwillingness of players to RP defeat.

Problem with your theory of being strong enough to take it is, the equipment always ends up on the same set of characters, this is what leads to hoarding in the first place. "If I can't keep my gear, nobody will have any."

If you limit the number of high end items one person can hold onto the gear gets spread around, it prevents hoarding, and limits the take it and hide it mentality of it all.

Pro tip, it will happen. Sorcs can do it w/o even thinking about it. Necros aren't far behind. ~10hrs/mo? Are you insane? That is hella easy to maintain.

You don't have the slightest clue what you are talking about. If you want to complain about sorcerers or ethereal, please make another thread to do so. There is a reason that Wudan made himself scarce when Tzernobog and Quoaver were around - both could go ethereal and one round him.

Actually, you have no clue. ~10hrs in an inn? I can do that and probably be afk from the keyboard. Yes, etherealness does matter because that limits WHO can actually attempt to gank them. Great... a handful of chars can get him. ~10hrs is easy to get... do it when that handful isn't around. I'm not complaining about etherealness. Your idea is full of fail though. Won't solve anything.

I think you mean same set of players - not the same set of characters. However, you are also underestimating the second order effects a change like this would cause. If you are required to spend time in a public place, a few things are likely to happen:

1. You will meet and interact with characters that you might not otherwise - including characters outside of your normal "clique" so to speak. I can guarantee this alone will result in gear getting passed around that would otherwise sit in a container.

2. Fear and peer pressure. It will be much harder to hoard gear you don't need, if you know it will attract others that want to kill you for it. They don't need to bust your outer guardian or find your wilderness hiding spot, if you have to spend time in an public place like an inn. It will also be difficult to justify keeping more loot than you need to other characters on your "team" - especially if you are evil and they can and will stab you in the back for it. Peer pressure works wonders, but it can't work if no one ever gets to interact with your character.

Won't change the cliques at all, lights are going to sit in the same three inns and the darks the same two, and only the greys will move about. Shoo that won't change at all, just makes people easier prey. Quite frankly I get pked enough when avoiding it let alone when I am forced into an inn. All you are doing us forcing people into the inn where you can find your enemies and pk then easier. No forced in time is a bad idea.

Again, the game needs to move from pk makes right.

Maybe we could salvage the discussion by figuring out whether it would be better to prevent hoarding or to punish hoarders... because that does put different priorities on things.

Does nothing to prevent a small group of players from holding onto limited/scripted/high lvl gear.

Problem is there is no definition to what constitutes hoarding.

Let's just focus on your last point; I'll agree. There is no official definition of hoarding, though Dulrik has ventured to give us an acceptable definition of item transfer and that's a great start.
