I've really been remarkably pleased with my rogue. They have significant limitations, that's for sure. And mine is a giant which does help damage, but hurts the usefulness of skills like disguise. It's possible that I've chosen an unusually nonstealthy play style for the class and that is driving the differing assessments. Your experience playing Conner has you posting a buff rogues thread on a weekly basis though. Can you help me understand the issues by posting problems you've encountered in playing the class? Sometimes I think the underlying issues get lost in discussion of change ideas and I'd like to understand what they are.

If I steal something, they know I did it with no proof. Need moar rogues. I'm not heavy into PvP but I do enjoy playing a sneaky class, I just want to see more offered to rogues in that light.

Rogues dont need a lot. The problem is that detect hidden is so easy to come by, backstab is so easy to stop. That leaves them with recite which to put simply there are other classes that are just better suited to be doing that.
Problems with rogues as I see it.
Problem:They can not use their signature skills 90% of the time also they have no control on when they can as it is up to their enemy to make a mistake.
Solution:A skill like tumble would not increase their "expected output" and in solo fights would not really help them at all. However it would make them a lot more useful in group combat situation.

Problem: Rogues are meant to be masters of stealth. However ethereal sorcerors who can sneak can do it better.
Possible solutions: A skill to get around auto follow off. The ability to disguise with out announcing the room. Visible command having split commands for invis, hidden, disguise and camo. The ability to recite with out announcing it. The ability to get past doors with out people noticing.

That being said rogues have been slightly improved by the larger numbers of swashbucklers taunt being a poor mans tumble.

They need to lower the HP on store bought pets, and make it so if you kill someone with your single back stab, your dual will go down the column to the next in position. That would work great. But the stealth idea really ruffles my jimmies in a good way.

I've had a lot of luck getting backstabs off. I'd suggest being proactive about it and looking for places to catch your victims unawares. I also haven't had issues wrecking store bought pets at whim. I don't think rogues need to do more damage or have an easier time getting 1shot kill blows off.

I liked the earlier ideas such as listening at a door better.

I don't PvP a lot, and you have met Conner before and im sure can kind of understand how in playing him. I'm looking for ways to stab someone in the back without literally doing it. I've already mananaged things that could deem him a 'spy' without simply selling information. Just want to see more offered.

Bump...
Also, I still really think a rogue should have an innate skill to avoid either NPCs like store bought pets or even playable character if they are ten levels or more below them, when aiming for a target to backstab and circle, and hamstring. Also I'm not the only one who thinks that sending a tell while hidden drops your shroud. And looming at detecting people as well. Please fix...

In the post above your last you say that you're looking for ways to stab someone in the back without literally doing it, but in your first sentence you're asking for abilities to let you avoid NPCs when literally backstabbing people. I'm confused. Going down the list...

1) Avoiding NPCs - I don't buy it. Backstab and circle do extreme damage. If you could backstab/circle past NPCs there would be no way short of keeping one's pulse racing all the time to avoid getting insta-killed by guys like me. It'd be overpowering.

2) Sending a tell while hidden does drop hide. As does using cabal chat, tribunal chat, etc. It'd be nice if this was changed but it's not a huge priority since obviously you control what you chat.

3) The hide-break on looking at detecting people is a HUGE boon to the rogue. You are asking for a nerf here. You WANT to know if someone can see you, trust me.

I liked earlier ideas such as listening through a closed door more than these.

I'm not speaking for myself on my posts as a few rogues have popped up. Also I don't see dropping hide to see who is detecting ad a boon... the whole room will be aware to my presence.

Rogues should be able to poison people's containers so that people actually DIE when they drink from them. For real.

>pick big-nose waterskin
>poison waterskin
>plant big-nose waterskin

a big-nosed male human drinks from a waterskin
a big-nosed male human gasps and he begins to claw at his throat.
a big-nosed male human is suffocating!!
a big-nosed male human is DEAD!!

I want to see some real assassinations going down.

Rogues are assassins. Assassins don't just go around stabbing people. They infiltrate and poison, or push kings off of bridges when no one is looking. Or they give basilisk venom to their mark's dog and the dog tears them apart. Rogues need creative ways of killing people completely independent of stabbing them.

Best idea ever.
