So... taking the advice that it's totally possible to be a pacifist (from another thread, on adding another good alignment) I set out to make one.

No problems thus far, all the way to Expert level...

At which point on asking around it seems there is no way to level up at Expert without killing living, sentient humanoids. Is this actually the case or is there some place I can't find anything out about, or is someone who doesn't want to be (more or less) a murderer... pretty much doomed to stay expert level forever?

Halp.

No, there are still places for you to go at expert. I am fairly confident that you can go all the way to GM on non-sentient beings and quests; you're just going to have to take a path less traveled (read: face creatures that are typically considered be to difficult to effectively/quickly level against) to do it.

Why is the most effective way to level to become a mass murderer and practice genocide? I don't even see how that's relevant to some classes.

Keep in mind you earn the same amount of experience on mode stun as you would on mode kill. But you can't just keep stunning the same people. Once you go through an area and leave everyone stunned, you'll need to leave and come back some hours later before they will give XP again.

And hope they aren't one of the 31251232237234235123425347234252 kinds of NPCs that tracks.

But even with mode stun, that hardly makes you a pacifist. Just because you beat the crap out of somebody but leave him an inch from dying, it doesn't really mean you're an advocate of peace ;)

Is spamming spells out of the question?

Can this level you up for real?

If so, I know exactly how to make the gap. >.>

There's a cap on the amount of XP you can gain from spellcasting per day, and you don't get a lot to begin with.

This is true, but you can still make a few ticks a day at champion level without spending too much time at it. For me it seemed like the higher level the spell the more the XP. If you're looking to level faster than that then yeah, you're gonna need to do some quests or kill something.

There's also quite a few areas with demonic-type things. I don't see why a pacifist would have issue killing undead either.
