I tried the PM route to no avail, so now I want to know the rules here.

Since the community is so small, and since people often use specific cabal skills IC and others know what they are, I -hate- dancing around this topic. It is asinine. BUT to conform with the rules, I will do the dance...

Don't those rules above apply to ALL manner of changing one's appearance? It should. However, I have logs of players using a super sekrat ability doing quite the contrary--either [SEKRATMOVE]ing their target or their charm/party members--yet no one has responded to my inquiry. To me, this should be punishable as a pretty clear violation, but what do I know.

I was wondering the same thing actually. A common tactic I noticed was to REDACTED the priest in the group so they couldn't be targeted as easily, be it through ranged or dirt flying. At the time I thought it a reasonable strategy, but now with the rules revolving around that area... not so sure.

Polymorph shouldn't have that note, and disguise should only apply to ridiculous crap like an elf disguising as burly when grouped with a burly centaur.

That note is indicative of one of SK's major problems though. 'At their discretion' basically means 'if the imms are out to get you or you make their buddy cry'.

I always thought disguise was suppose to throw off your enemy. So disguising as another in your group should be legit. Can't be any worse than picking hairy as your adjective and keeping a store bought pet with hairy as it's target.

If you limit how you can use a disguise why not just remove the skill completely. If I had the disguise skill I would disguise as my healer so our healer would be safe, it's called smart tactics. Protecting your healer. These rules are just getting worse and worse.

Disguise was meant to change your character's appearance, not to obfuscate others' targeting.

We can clearly observe that the game designer does not advocate playing Find-the-Lady with target keywords via several previous instances.

Using a feature outside of its intended purpose is obviously not encouraged.

Drewbag, I *THINK* you are correct that those rules above should apply to all manner of changing one's appearance. Sadr could probably answer that better than I. If you have such logs, I personally have never seen them or seen them submitted to Sadr or to the immstaff. I would recommend you do so. I don't know who you PM'd, but if you sent to Achernar, he has recently gone inactive, or if you sent to Zavijah, he's been busy IRL with work & family. Sadr would be the most appropriate imm to direct such logs to.

Valkyrion, these rules are not new. In the interest of maintaining transparency for protecting the interests of players and staff alike, we've been actively trying to make sure that these kinds of issues which have LONG been in effect are more clearly outlined. We've heard many rightful complaints from players being held accountable to rules they don't know about, so we've been addressing the issue. Damned if we do, damned if we don't. :)

I have mixed feelings on the nature of this rule. If there were a respectful, intelligent debate brought up to discuss it, I'd happily chime in with my opinions.

Whatever. This QQ is indicative of one of SK's major problems. Crap-attitude QQ. I have no idea who you are, who you've played, and maybe you aren't typically one of those players. But the above comment is indicative of it, and it's part of the problem, not part of the solution.

Neither polymorph, disguise, innate adjective choice any super sekret cabal abilities* should be used to confuse targetting.

*Super sekret cabal abilities? You mean, cabals have abilities? Wait, you mean, there are cabals? Oh my gosh I am so surprised it's not like all of these abilities are publicly available in unofficial websites..

So, can we please be allowed to talk openly about these things? I think opening more 'game info' forums was a positive step.

Really? The note says it is "bad form" and "may be punished at an imm's discretion". It doesn't actually say there's a rule against it. Which is honestly some very curious obfuscation on the part of whoever added that.

Hell, Tragonis just age deathed a character in the Guardians with "grey-bearded" as his adj. Grey wolves, one of the most popular pets in the game happen to be sold in the Guardian capital.

This seems like the sort of thing that gets enforced via popularity contest.

I can personally attest these are the sorts of things that get enforced via popularity contest.

That's why idiots should target the race and not the adjective. So many screw-ups take place by targeting the adjective. Flamestrike se guard, that poor serene female elf in our group never saw it coming.

If it's against the rules, why not just put that, instead of 'you might be punished'.
