Not that it makes much difference, but there is more then ONE class that can identify as Duane seems to think. In fact about half the classes can identify (pretty much every class with access to spells the only exception from memory being warlocks) and even then, I'm pretty sure theres wands/scrolls in game for the few other classes.

Plus bards can use lore which identifies the items innate state.

There has been a few useful ideas on this thread, but part of this game is the mystery and quirks that can seem a bit rough to newbies but you'll learn soon enough.
As it has also been mentioned, if you've lost something that you bought from a shop it's either been enchanted past your level or you got hit by the dehoarding code which is another beast entirely.

I'll also add that the learning curve of this game is not as steep as it was 10+ years ago when some of us started playing.
Putting the game on easy mode for newbs won't make it any more fun to play, noone expects your first character(or three) to "WIN" the game, nor should you expect anything close to that. You'll lose alot of stuff, you'll die alot of times and you'll probably rage quit a few times along the way but most other players will be there to help you along the way to some extent and you will learn pretty quick what to do and what not to do and that learning curve is part of the fun of playing a new game.

Not true. I have personally had items stolen that I was NOT told by any shopkeeper they would be stolen, some that were NOT given to me by other players. So that is false in my experience, you don't always get warned, at least in the newbie shops I bought my stuff from.

I was trying to figure out how that could be the case, but am drawing a blank. Feel free to PM me with further information.

As far as I'm aware from the rest of the posts in the forums. He had alot of stuff in his inventory that triggered the dehoard code, was nothing to do with level thieves.

So the problem is with the de-hording code, it right now doesn't consider the level of the items, only the number of items I believe.

Ideally it would only count items over a certain level. I suggest 30 or so. That would exclude the majority of shop bought gear.

Even if the de-hoarding code was triggered, it shouldn't remove items that are unlimited and below level 20. It's always possible there is a bug, but I would need specific lists of items that were held and removed to dig deeper.

I lost everything; I dont have a list as at that time I did not having a woreking identify spell and as a result had no way to know what I had.

This makes no sense. You don't need a working identify spell to know what items you were holding that were removed. All you need is the "INVENTORY" and "EQUIPMENT" commands to view what you are holding in your inventory or wearing as equipment. Then a simple cut & paste into an email could give Dulrik the list he needs to investigate.

If you didn't log your session or if it's no longer in your buffer, then of course you might not be able to reliably recall/describe what items you had/lost. But this has nothing to do with the "identify" spell.

I thought automation was cheating? I don't run automation so I have no such log.

Logging doesn't have anything to do with automation (I assume here you mean botting or certain triggers and whatnot). It's just a literal record of everything that appears in your output window. A lot of people log everything (myself included), others log nothing, and others still log only when it's to record something interesting or a bug/etc.

It's not a bad thing to consider doing probably, in your case, to show what issues you may or may not still be having.
