You negate their range by stepping into their swinging arc. Once you are up close and stop their ability to use their reach they are pretty much sol, at this point they either have the choice to drop the large weapon and go hand to hand or attempt to switch weapons. Lighter materials are going to offer less protection and it also depends on the type of armor being used. I should rephrase that I will take my box cutter in the majority of fights, the machete or short sword would be advantageous in some fights. General rule of thumb is the smaller the blade the harder it is to follow in a fight, it makes parrying, dodging, or even tracking it more difficult and easier to land a blow. Any armor will restrict your movements, I don't care the weight, when you strap something rigid over your body it interferes with natural body movement, even chain will tug at you and slow you down.

Yeah I totally hate it when I'm just trying to play a game where I get to cast magic missile and all these dumb physics laws keep getting misrepresented.

RE: grep

This could be a buff, or a wimp, or do nothing to necros, depending. On the one hand, I suggest a penalty to each additional attacker; on the other hand, I suggest a penalty to the defender's deflection ability for each additional attacker.

What I -would- like to see, would be for Sadr to be able to transport every soldier in the Empire into one room with the Splitbanes, and for the latter to have a chance of victory through effective terrain and space management.

If King Leonidas can defeat the Persian hoardes due to surface area management,

The War On Terror has achieved a vital objective.

it has proven that the best way to win PK is to camp in your city and spam scry and voodoo.

Gotta break up the Axis of Evil.

Your box cutter vs machete dilemma depends on what kind of space you are fighting in. Samurai invented the wakizashi for fighting inside buildings and in cramped urban environments, but would tend to prefer longer weapons in open spaces.

Without getting too off subject,

I am aware that they eventually withdrew due to a failure to control surface area, IE, their flank, though I would say that their operation was an overall success.

It's just a common example of limited space as a force multiplier. Just go with it.

I don't know what movie you watched, but Herodotus was pretty explicit about the fact that the acropolis was burned soon after that "defeat" of Xerxes.

Marathon. Cannae. Caudium. All better examples.

Bannockburn. Watling Street. Still better examples.

King Leonidas didn't defeat the Persian hordes. Thermopylae was a resounding defeat for Leonidas and the Greeks. That's why it's called a Last Stand. The Greek armies were flanked on two sides and couldn't manage to hold the pass at the end.

SK has certain limitations that don't allow it to display 3D space that well. So what? Are you also going to argue that human females shouldn't have as much physical strength as human males? I mean when we're talking realistically here.
