You have a sentient creature telling you whether or not it has the item. How is that implausible or worthy of being labeled a bug?
"Hey, can I have your sword?"
"I can neither confirm nor deny that I have a "sword," and neither can I tell you whether I would give it to you if I did have such an item. I can simply tell you that you will not be getting a "sword" from me right now."
